So I decided that I needed a desperate break from my 200 VC zombies.... Desperately, so one night after having a few too many drinks (one of which ended up on the floor of my local hobby shop) I picked up the Lizardmen Steg and proceeded to assemble and base coat. I promise that all knife work was done while sober.

    Without any further ado!

    Re: Stegadon WIP

At this current point in time, I'm going to lighten them slightly, offsetting the darker purple of the skin after all the washes i've done. Also, the Howdah is going to be mostly dark colors, so I needed the contrast.

After some serious looking, and lots of tinkering, I reduced the yellow belly to just he direct underside, due to layering issues I was having. My airbrush layers were so thin it was creating a green effect where the two colors met, which was not appealing at all!

    Looks great! Airbrushing?

Kind of wish that you had kept the white underbelly.

Love the airbrushing. That's how I did my Steg too. The green at the border is puzzling. Shouldn't happen. Are you sure your layers were completely dry?

Did you run your Folk Art paint through the Airbrush? If so, what did you use to thin it out? I ask because I just purchased an airbrush and plan on using Folk Art paints in it. I need some practical advice on that.

    Thanks

I thin Folkart paint with Badger airbrush thinner that you can get at any craft store.

    Re: Stegadon WIP

I did run the craft paint through my brush, with no adverse effects. I put some in a solo cup (red, of course) and added Testor Paint Thinner and distilled water till I liked the consistency.

I was going to keep the bright yellow underbelly, but after toying with colors and fade effects, I liked the Purple way too much to not have most of it. The next Steg I do I'll probably flip the colors and have it mostly yellow.

As for the green, yes the layers were dry, I gave it several hours in between coats. I think I still had some airbrush cleaner in the yellow when I started painting, which may have loosened some of the purple pigment, making green. I did some testing last night on a piece of paper and was able to recreate the effect if there was cleaner in the brush somewhere. Make sure to spray it all out before applying paint!

As promised, more pictures! I've started in on the Howdah. The stone pieces will be Obsidian (if I can create the effect) and the rest blue accents to pop the yellow and gold a little bit.

Haha, really cool, the Slann has a parabolic antenna! Now he can watch satellite TV... Just kidding, that looks really cool, fits surprisingly well with the palanquin.

that could even be a palanquin for a tetto'eko model, you could glue the stegadon skink cheif on the stairs et voila!

Both the Slann and the Skink Priest will be able to use this, it's been modified to accept either one, although the Slann will be floating above the stairs, Zenmaster style.

The Howdah is coming along nicely! You can also see the pile o skinks behind the Steg. They're next!

    Re: Stegadon WIP (UPDATED: 9/4)

The fininshed Stegadon, what does everyone think? The weathering looks much more natural when viewed in natural light, the flash removed all textural detail on the feet.

That looks really cool, great work! I must admit I personally prefer two colour lizardmen, so I agree I preferred it with more of the yellow showing on the skin, however, I can see why you changed it and it still looks good as is.

    Re: Stegadon WIP (UPDATED: 9/4)

To compensate for alot of the yellow being covered up, I brought the colors and it's family to the Howday, golds, yellows, lighter bronzes, etc. That should complement the purple nicely!
