are they worth it when browsing through lists and tactics, i seem to nearly always read, stegs are shooting practise, they are the main target, they are.. are they just not worth the points? let me know what you guys think about it
If you are used to facing lots of warmachines, not really. Otherwise an ancient makes a great centrepiece and a very useful model!
i am a very competetive player, so i always make all comers list, not depending on what i face or not =) im mostly an overall view of person
Hello, If You are a competetive player and make an all comers lits, than You should know that everthing depends on the lore that you pick on the Slann. In my opinion Stegs aren't worth it. You have Slamanders in rare, and Cam skins, Kroxigors and even Terradons in special. The only usage for a Steg is an EotG on the New ETC rules wich suck hard. I use the EotG because It was tthe second model that I've bought, and its a Gamble, one time he can be the MVP the other he wil be killed by a stupid pit of shades (failing the test on a 2+) But you can try to use them but the need to be treated like an infant (the irony) You should cast Iceshards on Warmachines, use Terradons etc. Cheers
yeah, i use my steggys for lank support, and some hitting power, so if i take them, out, what should i add in in stead
Hello, @vapor, Thank you I know that ETC suck but there are a lot of tournaments with ETC rules... @Hover boy Thank you too i was autocheating myself yet again
It is a ridden monster skinks and steg take their own tests... Likely the shades kills you, but srsly, slann has becalming and ur priest has a scroll...
Are they separate models cuz thats what it takes for separate tests. Hint: They aren't and that spell specifically causes ONE TEST PER MODEL HIT regardless of how many hits that model got (6 in a steg's case).
It is true that Stegs used to be a lot more powerful but with everything wounding on 6's it has made a world of difference for the stegadons. I like to field Stegs myself but when I do I make it a point to get them into combat as efficiently and quickly as possible (easier said than done).
I honestly would only field them (when I do) against non-shooty armies. Haven't touched them in 8th yet. I used to run frenzied steg behind a skink cohort redirect alongside my TG bunker. He would either flank whatever touched the TG, or the skinks would redirect and he'd obliterate that. With redirecting being practically removed, and my group playing more shooty armies now, I haven't touched the buggers
Actually the 6s are old but fear/terror used to be very powerfull allowing stegs to rape units solo, steadfast means that they can no longer do that.
I personally love me some stegs. I field 2 whenever I can squeeze them in, an Eotg and a regular ancient. The engine protects me as I move towards the enemy and and with lore of life on my Slann I havent lost one of them yet. A combined saurus and steg charge is a thing of beauty and I find that if picked carefully they can handle themselves without further support against a variety of things. Last night my steg held a unit of black orcs until my templeguard could flank charge them, suffice to say the orcs were massacred. That said he probably should not attack anything strength 5 or higher without some support, Also I find that Shield of Thorns helps alot with steadfast blocks.
