Hey strewart! This thread is all about you. So I see you are on this forum a lot and you're all about "theoryhammer," as some people phrase it. I've been curious about what your (2250) list looks like. Can you post it up? Thanks. You're coldblooded friend, slannfrog
I don't know if this thread is gonna hit it off or not, but I'd be interested to see strewart's lists. A 1k, 1500, 2k triple threat, would be nice! I know from all the posts I've seen that strewart is a pretty smart guy when it comes to lizardmen, I'll definately keep an eye on this thread. Later...
Hmm ok, throw the challenge at me! To be honest, I don't play 1k or 1.5 k, so anything I posted at those levels would just be made up on the spot. My original 2k list contains a carnosaur, I love the model, but lately I have really been strongly leaning toward a Slann list. And apparently when I put Windows 7 on my comp a few weeks ago my old army builder lists decided not to load any more, eh. Anyway, right now I am at the business end of a very very busy uni year. I'm doing honours in nanotechnology, so I really haven't had a lot of time to assemble, paint and play warhammer. In december when it is over I will be looking to have a lot of WHFB games. I'm still very much experimenting with LM and wanting to try lots of different things to see what works best for me. For now, here is the 2k list that I have used a couple of times so far. I will definitely be posting a lot more stuff in summer, its going to be the best summer of my life with any luck given everything I have planned for it. So here is my list, I shall add a bit of commentry for my reasoning as well, afterall the effectiveness of an army is mostly decided by tactics; Old Blood, general, carnosaur, light armour, scimitar of the sun, maiming shield (Still tossing up between this build and the blade of realities, for now I want him to be a serious threat to units and with 8 s5 attacks before frenzy on top of the carnosaur's s7 attacks, infantry and heavy cavalry will cower. A lone hunter here who is deployed last being a character so can go wherever required; deploy on a strong flank to decimate enemy flankers or move with the centre line to deal with heavy cavalry and the likes. Also avoid lining up opposite warmachines) Priest, engine, lvl 2, 2xscroll (very expensive for a scroll cady, but the engine powers is great since VC are one of my main opponents, and an extra DD for lvl3 plus an ok chance to get a spell off was too tempting. As an aside, I am really interested in fielding the models I love rather than an extremely competative army, stay tuned for my engine conversion which is shaping up pretty cool. I really struggled to eject the Temple Guard from this list, because they are another bunch of models that I really really like the look of) 18 saurus, spears, standard, musician 18 saurus, spears, standard, musician (A good solid centre for the army. I remain convinced that the extra attacks gathered by going 6 wide is well worth it, and I can live without unit champs since there are no characters there to protect) 16 skinks, kroxigor, musician (I mainly ejected the standard because I ran out of points. They can deal with standard core infantry without their standard, but with M6 are a bit more for support. Most of the time I won't charge them at a full unit, rather let it get softened first or sit to the outside of the saurus and both protect their flanks and threaten the flanks of whatever the saurus are fighting) 10 skink skirmishers (everyone knows these guys have a hundred uses, they need no justification. I would add another unit, but ran out of points) Stegadon (Again, love the model which is half the reason for him, he will sit on the opposite side of the line from the big skink unit and cover the other flank. If I charge, he can move up to threaten the flank. If the opponent charges (saurus), I will know they are in range and he will be angled to hit their flank) 4 terradons riders (At first I thought these were no brainers for every list, but I am becoming increasingly convinced of the value of char skinks. I can have 2 small units of them or one large unit and points left over if I take them instead. It will be a matter of trying both and seeing what works best for me. I want them to drop rocks on a unit to get rid of a rank bonus and hunt warmachines while march blocking, then position themselves behind the opponent live to catch anyone fleeing by crossfire or charge anything fleeing to ensure they keep going. I'd also fancy their chances against a corpse cart if I was facing VC) Salamander, extra handler (yeah I think the extra handler is worth it for 5 points, takes longer to make him need monster reaction. He will swagger up a flank and blitz any fast cavalry there, he will move back toward the centre and flame a unit or two to get rid of a rank and cause some nice panic, he may even toast a warmachine if the terradons are too busy) So there you have it, the list has won two games so far one against empire and one against VC. I'm somewhat happy with it, and looking forward to taking on the new Skaven lots since my friend is rat-crazy. As I said, come december I will be playing a lot more and posting more pics of my army as it properly develops, I hope my initial commentry was helpful to some though. Also, in my gaming group we are pretty fond of 3k games and I am very much looking forward to building a 3k list with both a Slann and a carnosaur in it. One small final note on saurus warriors that I have noticed so far, it is important not to overestimate them. This army I am using is somewhat modelled on my High Elf force except I guess the carnosaur takes the place of dragon princes. 18 saurus throw out a lot of attacks, but their static combat res is a bit weak. They won't get outnumber since they are only 18, they have one less rank than blocks of 20 and if they lose a couple of saurus they will reduce to a single rank bonus. Against other standard units they'll be fine, but so many centre-line units contain a character which will undoubtably swing the combat their way. The saurus need support, which they have on either side, and the whole army must function as 1 army rather than multiple units to work properly.
Thanks strewart. I'm glad you're a carnosaur player too. Yes, the slann is probably the best choice for a Lizardmen lord but a carnosaur list seperates the men from the boys. I would suggest making one of your scrolls a DoP. If you're going against a magic heavy opponent you'll notice those scrolls being used up quick, but if you run the scroll and DoP you can still cast a spell with three dice and save two for the next dispell phase (giving you 6 DD - better then most armies). How do you run your lord? Is he all alone? Or is he in one of the saurus units?
Okay, so I think we can all tell that not too far down the road Strewart here will be reaching 2000 posts... a legendary feat. However, I have come up with a plan. In order to allow everyone else to post as much as he has, I propose that once Strew has reached 2009 posts, he shall only be allowed to post once per year. That way he will always have as many posts as whatever year it is and, over time, the common people of L.O. will not be so overshadowed in postaliciousosityness. Thank You, -Eternity "Sarcasm" Warden
Woah dudes, I'm sure we don't want only 1 post a year from Stevey! That would rival my activity when I first joined up; I only really became active feb/march this year. Also, post count IMO does not define a person. You could reset my count (or I could being an admin) and I really wouldn't care. It is the quality of posts that matter. I am glad that people find my posts useful and helpful, and certainly feel honoured on this forum. Focus on what you say rather than how much crap you spew. In fact, I am certainly looking forward to becoming a lot more active in december as I mentioned earlier when my honours is all finished. Thursday is my last day, but I plan to spend close to a week drunk so maybe only the quality of this rambling piece of cr@p. Anyways, if all goes to plan keep an eye out for many more pics from my army, and many more thoughts on units and army lists.
