    Ok, so here it is:

I was thinking about the best way to proceed about choosing a competitive 2400 army list which includes a slann. So my thougths were that if you want a competitive list with a slann it has to be as good as a caster as it can be but because of his cost I would not like to spend another 300+ points in a templeguard unit. Such an expensive character should be able to take care of himself without a bodyguard specialy because I dont like my elite unit blowing up by miscast do to the large base of the slann. So after all that here is my built but I dont know if I can have the magic carpet.

    300 Slann Mage priest
    Diciplines:
60 Ethereal, can't join units and Unstable ( no mundane equipment can harm him)
    35 Lore Master High Magic
    30 two more chaneling dice
25 repeat first dispell atempt failed
    Magic items:
    30 magic Resistance 2
    15 chaneling on 5+
50 Flying carpet (this is where I am unsure it specifies that only infantry miniatures, how ever it doesnt say anithyng about only miniatures on foot, I know it sounds weird a mague prist in a palaquin and a flying carpet, however the palankin is not a mount and the slann unit type is infantry.... Sooo? Can you do it??)

With this list the slann ends up being 545 but is preaty much unkilable and a great caster:

Ethereal, 2+ wardsave against magic, and fly means that he would be almost imposible to kill, and for casting he has great movility to avoid threts and to cast from perfect positioning. The good thing about high magic is that by changing the spells you can costumise your lore to be defensive or offensive as much as you like and also costumise it against any army you are playing.

The huge problem with this is that you dont get the old blood reroling 1+ and 4+ wardsave. This is the main reason that I have been taking teto ekko insted, but for a competitive list you need a level 4

Ok enough chats! WHAT DO YOU THINK??

The Palanquin rule says that the slann is never considered a model on foot for the purposes of spells or magic items. The Arabyan Carpet requires the bearer to be an infantry or monstrous infantry model on foot. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to get a flying slann. If there were, I think that he would be a very popular choice for many Lizardmen players.

Dont think ethereal is really needed. I just park my slann in a cohort or skirmisher unit behind my templeguard, use my priests to help him fire his missiles and then jump into the templeguard when someone starts threatening him.
Wandering deliberations also help with not blowing you and your poor skinks or saurus since the casting costs are pretty low

I've been bunkering my slann in a unit of skink skirmishers recently, and with a 2nd unit of skirmishers screening them it both keeps the slann safe and keeps enemy light cav/ etc. out of your backfield.

The problem with the ethereal slann is he still falls prey to magical attacks that are not spells. High Elf Sisters of Averlorn and Reaver Bow schenanigans, Hellcannons from WoC, runed Dwarven artillery, Daemon cannons, and any shooting unit buffed by spells such as Enchanted Blades or Flaming sword will all bypass your main defences, with no option for hiding in a unit.

The skirmishers also take the least amount of damage from the slanns miscasts due to him sitting on the side and their spread out nature. Giving you more "safe" options when you double 6, especially with Soul of Stone.

Thanks for the clarification mate! I still dont understand what that rule " he is not counted as model on foot" means, is there a page in the rulebook that I can refer to? Hiw dos it work with spells like dwelers below, pit of shaded etc...? How else does this afect the slann?

    Thanks I apreciate it! :)

The Palanquin rule is on page 31. It means that he is not a model on foot. This makes sense because he is floating on a big palanquin. The Arabyan Carpet requires that the model is on foot. For spells like dwellers and pit of shades, look at the description of the spell in the rulebook and see if it says anything specifically about affecting models on foot/ or models not on foot. Both of these spells make no mention of not affecting models who are not on foot, therefore, they affect the slann. Of course, for pit of shades, the slann will get a lookout sir roll (if in unit) because it is a template.

The models on foot rule is not something that comes up very often. Unless there is a specific mention of it under a spell or magic item description, it has no other affect that I know of.

    60 + 35 + 30 + 25 = 150.

    Nothing illegal going on here.
