Hi guys. I don't know about you, but I haven't had the chance to play any of these armies in the 8th edition yet. I've got a tourney coming up, points limit 800. Only allowd 25% in total for Lords/Heroes. How should I counter them? My list: priest lvl 2 diadem and ring; 20 x 2 saurus; 10 skinks; and salamander.
Bleh. I hate unbreakable, panic proof, fear causing armies. I don't have a good rep with beating them, so I am probably not the best one to give advice. You literally have to kill all the models in the unit to claim VP. Luckily poison still works on all of them (except ghouls?), so that's good. Your Salamander and Saurus won't have a problem killing them, but any close combat will turn into a grindfest. If you can double up on any of their units in close combat, you will have a much easier time getting them to die. Just remember that skirmishers don't negate ranks, so flank charges from Skinks and Salamanders won't give you a +1 to combat rez. Daemons are expensive, so that guy probably wont't have many units for you to deal with. TK are shooters in my group, so you can probably expect casualties before close combat starts. Then you should be fine. With VC, I try to kill the pesky wizards ASAP.
Hello, Daemon Core units cost 1 point more than Saurus warriors, so they are not that expensive. As for TK i played vs TK in a 800 point game, He had 2 units of 16 archers a 2 lvl Liche priest 3 chairots and 3 Necropolis knights, he pounded me into the ground...;/ Watch out for those knighs!
Vampires aren't easy to kill. What new units do TK have that I should be aware of in 800 points? Apparently, n. knights are good.
in my oppinion, tomb kings are just terrible, but the game is very weird in games below 2000p. for example, a LM player could field an all skink force at 800 and be very competitive, while at 2000 an all skink force would be fun at best, but definitely not ideal. at 800 points, TK can not buff their tomb guard to any real extent, so you neednt worry about that. all other troops they possess are just weaker versions of what other armies have, so i wouldnt worry about any special combo. that being said, you can NEVER underestimate your opponent. a better player than you will still beat you with TK, and some lucky roll of the dice can turn any battle.
@Lord You have the feeling that TK are a little underpowered? I mean I like TK, but I think that GW screw some thing up with this AB. I mean sure, you have a magic advantage but your troops are sort of weak in combat. And you can't play pure offence becaue You can't march...
On another note, I just saw an O&G army with three fanatics, two mangler squigs, and six chariots! My 40 Saurus... how would they cope with all that fast stuff. This is at 800 points btw.
I'll be the voice of dissent here and say that a Vampire Count army under 2000 can actually be a breeze to kill. They rely very heavily on the general to keep the entire army functioning, so if you can knock out that low-point general his entire army will quite literally fall apart after a few failed leadership tests. At 800 points, he'll only have a 200-point general, so something relatively squishy. You might even be able to kill him off with a single Comet spell if you're lucky enough to roll it.
I have a fairly good skink priest... he can deal with ethereals but I'm not so sure vampires are so easy unless i get lucky with Comet. Also, the VC guy I play never run his vampire solo, so I can't snipe him.
