I regularly play a HE player who always brings teclis. He's able to both shut down my magic phase (with 2D3 extra dispel dice) and get off 2 or more IF spells during each of his own phases. Im sure Im not the only lizzie general thats run into this dilemma and i was wondering how you all have been dealing with it? I used to bring a feedback scroll and bane head which worked fairly consistently, but i want to be able to equip my slann differently so I ditched that approach. My next thought would be to magic him, dwellers or something (teclis is S2 T2 and has only 3 wounds) but my HE friend keeps teclis in a spearmen bunker that is immune to magic with some banner. How have skinks, terradons, or flying a character into close combat (steed of shadows) worked for you all? Let me know of any alternative ideas you had as well. Thanks in advance for the advice
If he is generating Dispel Dice with the Banner of Sorcery then has is (knowingly or mistakenly) cheating. Banner of Sorcery only generates power dice. People don't run Special Characters where I am. Its just not balanced. Banner of the World Dragon? Need a BSB for that. IMO the only way is to ignore him and cop the spells or Feedback Scroll as you mentioned.
Blood statuette of spite works nicely. Another thing that works well is in the lore of light. The net of amyntok (or something close to that). It makes the unit he is in have to take a str test for any action (including spells). That killed Teclis for me yesterday (I almost didn't even cast it). It will at least give you one turn where he will not be able to use that unit.
Ah well 2D3 dispel dice could be my mistake, but if he tries it again i'll certainly confront him. And yes, I believe he runs a noble in the unit to hold the Banner of the World Dragon. Ignore him? Thats pretty hard to do considering the amount of damage he's capable of. Thanks for the input though kroxigor01. And both the blood statuette of spite and net of amyntok are excellent ideas Arli, but they're both spells so he's completely protected with his banner. I was thinking about a hefty unit of Chameleon skinks with a stalker and maybe Oxyotl. Has anyone tried him out? Just to clarify, his attack characteristic of 3 doesn't affect his number of shots right? I mean for only 2 shots with probably a half chance of hitting with modifiers, is he worth the points? But im afraid that without him, the skinks wont be able to wear down the spearmen and then get to Teclis before they get charged or killed somehow. Has anyone tried something like this before? thanks
I took him in that game yesterday. I put him alone (the other chameleons were needed to try to kill his dragon). I marched him between Teclis' unit and a unit of guard (outside their charge arcs). Then took my shots. In the first turn (which I got), I missed both of those shots. But, he could not charge him or shoot him. It was over before I could use his sniping ability again. I would take him again (but it would have to be in a 3k game also). He probably isn't worth his points. But, when you are dealing with the teclis build that you faced, you almost have to use him.
Rush him with Saurus. Keep a Slann nearby with Becalming Cogitation to shut down his spells and remember three important things: 1. If he's using Banner of the World dragon he can't buff his own squad with magic (it specifically states that in the item), so he can't have any kind of save. 2. If he rolls doubles but still fails to meet the minimum cast number for the spell, he still fails to cast it (it's in the FAQ) 3. He has to be in the front rank unless the front rank has a full command and two heros. And if he's in front, you can choose to direct attacks against him.
I can only think of three options. 1: Take 6 sallamanders 2: Try to becalm Teclis, it's not a spell so the banner dosen't protect him. 3: Do both.
Are you crazy, take 12 to shut down an entire army of t3 lightly armoured fools and some huge blocks of saurus to take on the dragon princes.
