Just a small topic this one, But I was wondering about our 'friend' Teclis, you know; the incredible High Elf mage and all that... I wondered how he would fare in 8th..? With IF+miscast in one, it's just a matter of time before heads start popping...correct? Pretty darn funny to see (arguably!) the best mage in the world getting nerfed because of the rules! Thing is, I have not yet seen the book in real life (yes yes, boo hiss....) so I don't know the EXACT rules for IF/loss of control.... Could somebody lend me a hand on this one? Thanks, The Hunted
To be honest, the loss of control stuff looks so deadly it is likely to toast even medium mages really easily and possibly even some tough mages. I don't think it is more of a disadvantage for Teclis than anyone else, even though he is as fragile as a skink and very expensive. He has some very handy abilities, and of course is a level 4 wizard. I think some people will still risk him. Remember, every turn he can ignore the first miscast which is likely to get errataed to loss of control. However, a once good ability in every double being irresistable suddenly becomes a bit more dangerous to himself.
From what I have heard "loss of control" is only linked to rolling double sixes, and not directly linked to geting a spell off with irrestiable force.
Hmm that would certainly mix things up. I know the High Elves alone have 2 ways of getting any double be IF, and other armies have a few ways too. Would be a bit nicer if it was only 6's. I'd really like to see magic be an extremely unpredictable force that mages cannot really harness at all, half the time it wrecks your opponent's army and half the time it just obliterates your own.
i heard a rumor today in my local gw store that the next armie to be looked at again will be high elves this makes a little sense since they are very magic dependent so i wonder weather the changes theat may come to them will change their play abit.
Although I agree with Hellbreaker that tomb kings and Ogre Kingdoms is suppose to get new books soonest I think the HE will need a drastic errata if nothing else since they have the 'elite army' style where they only have to take two core, six special, four rare choices in 7th. Now they are gonna get nerfed a bit because of the 25% min core, 50% max. Their core selection is small and their troops are average - disadvantaged IMHO.
The ASF helps them a lot too now in 8th though. In the majority of instances they will get to re-roll missed hits since they will have higher Initiative as well. Sure maybe the army composition hurt them, but it hurt demons even more. They will still be far from bottom of the rung. Everyone hopes the erratas will be army changing. I hope this is not the case, since we haven't even seen the meta game yet to determine who will really need the help.
HE will be getting an elite army special rule. Not sure whether it completely negates the percentages or just changes them, but they should be right. There were rumours of HE book coming in october, and it is usual for GW to release a new book for one of the starter set armies pretty quickly, plus HEs are getting new models in october so the signs are there. TK will really be effected by 8th ed more than HE since they have incantations not normal magic. We shall see.
