I just thought of an idea I might try in a small army battle. My buddies and I have 1000 point battles once in a while, and I have a Tehenauin model simply because he looks badass. However I've never found a use for him until now, and even then it's a little risky. So, I'm wondering although yes he is a level 2 wizard, therefore only gets 2 spells from the lore of beasts, if he were to roll a 6 (or doubles) and get the spell transformation of khadon wouldn't that be pretty much, well awesome. Assuming if you get at least 6 power dice turn 1, you could throw all of them at that spell and in all likelihood, either cast it, or cast it with irresistable force. If cast with irresistable force even better as no one could dispel it. In that scenario, assuming you don't die from the miscast, you could now have a Great Fire Dragon. In a 1000 point battle, this could be epic. 8 wounds and a scaly skin save of +2, I'm pretty sure any 1000 point army would have one hell of a time bringing that sucka down. If you don't get the spell just run a skink heavy army and use Tehenauin as best as you can. He's still not terrible, just very expensive, however to me, this possibility makes the expense, (nearly) worth it. Just the idea to me seems so kickass, I'm thinking I might try this next game, even if it strategically is very risky, the idea and fun factor of finally using Tehenauin seems worth it. So I'm just wondering what are people's thoughts on this, also is there anything suggesting that the transformation doesn't work on a miscast? Or that Tehenauin can't use that spell in general.
Nope no reason you can not use him go for it. He is awesome if you are playing Skink heavy army against Skaven.
Take the power scroll to half the casting value of the spell and you will be more likely to get it off.
I think Lore of the Beasts has the best Signature spell, which means you have a nice consolation prize if you don't get Transformation of Kadon.
Can you use a power scroll on Tenehuain? I don't know the rules all that well as I've only battled twice and am still a little unsure on a bunch of rules. I was undert the impression you couldn't use items on special characters, seeing as there's nothing beside them in the back of our rule book that says "can take magic items up to 100 pts" for example. So as there's nothing that clearly states he can take an item, I was under the impression you can't take magical items. I may be wrong though, if anybody knows the exact answer I'd love to know, as that would also, effect a Tetto'eko build of mine in a completely seperate list. If I can take items, it wouldn't matter anyways as this is a 1000 point battle, and Tenehuain is 250 points. (max points already) But regardless I'd really appreciate if somebody could clear this up for me!!
I am not sure, but I assume you can invoke the scroll and apply it to whomever you want. That said, I have never used the item. If it is tied to the holder of the scroll, Tehenauin cannot use it. Maybe someone else can shed some light on that.
I'm about 99% sure the wording for the "new" Power Scroll specifies the wielder only can use it. Pyre
He is talking about a 1000 point game so chances are not going to have another caster anyway, so just 6 dice it and hope for total power and a miscast roll that does not suck him into the warp.
Just remember that Remains in Play spells can be dispelled in any subsequent Magic phase on it's standard casting value. So even if you manage to to get it through, come worst case you can only use the Breath Weapon before you are back in your feeble skink form. Of course this draws dice from your opponent, which is nothing to sneeze at. My High Elf playing friend made a really interesting face when he Transformed his loremaster mage into a Mountain Chimera, which I charged with six Skeleton Chariots, dispelled the spell and pounded the squishy mage into a really really really fine paste. It was a gamble, but surely paid off.
I was discussing this with some VC players the other day, they have a nasty combo for Transformation but said that the trick is to first get into combat during your movement phase then cast it. Also, I'm not sure about this but someone had told me things such as Vampire abilities and Tide of Serpents transfer when transformed because they are considered Special Abilities, not items or mundane equipment. I don't follow that myself since I don't even use the spell and I'd be a bit worried about it turning into an argument.
It would be weird to have the Tide of Serpents while transformed, but the FAQ for Transformation of Kadon says that special rules still ably, like non-equipment Ward saves and stuff. From the FAQ, page 11: Q: If a model is transformed, for example by the Transformation of Kadon or Sivejir’s Hex Scroll, do their special rules stop working along with their magic items and equipment?(Reference) A: No
Its one of the reasons they made sure the slann couldn't use it... ...a dragon with a 4+ ward that cannot be affected by mundane items?
