As I am currently adding many skinks for an all skink list, I was thinking of picking up a tenehauin model, but looking at his statline it appears he is awful and should never be taken, can anyone give any reasons explaining why he is good? (besides against skaven)

Don't forget that he is also a level 2 wizard with lore of beasts!

Also, he gets D6 poisoned attacks from tide of serpents.

Great if you rolled a 6 and get Transformation

Pretty bad if not, isn't it?

If you are going for an all skink-no slann army, then the ability to have lore of beasts as well as lore of heavens can be useful, however he is expensive, much better to take a slann unless you have a clear skink-theme in mind.
However since there are no other skink lord options I guess he is a possibility

He is pretty weak and a poor ward, it will difficult to keep him alive in combat with good warriors.

Not at all, just having a different lore from heavens can be useful, give your opponent something else to consider but wildform (strength 4 javs) and curse have general use in a skink army
Pelt and savage beast could help keep tehenehuain alive/more deadly in combat or if you have some skink chiefs that need boosting. By no means "good" but average rather than pretty bad

I can see why it would be useful to be able to bring beasts, though if I am going to run a named char I think I will take tetto' echo :) , also I feel that a Saurus character, seeing as it is unlikely that a slann would allow a skink to lead a host of skinks

I use Tehenehuain as the General in my all Skink army and he is usually quite reliable. If your not using any Saurus or Slann the biggest thing about him is the Leadership of 8.

I always put him on an Ancient Stegadon as the 2+ Armour Save makes him much more resilient. Also then he has an extended Leadership Bubble and the extra Engine of the God Goodies.

Yes you lose Tide of Serpents but I think its worth it.

If your not going all Skinks however I would leave him at home!

None of the Lizardmen named characters are worth their points cost in 8th, especially with the various nerfs in the errata. Only take them for themed/fun/non-competitive games to break the rut of going with the best builds. Generally you can build better characters or at least ones without the various glaring weaknesses that the current crop of named characters have.
