Greetings my fellow Cold Bloods. It’s been a good while since I broke out the old Lizard Men, but I need a change from the Dwarf & Night Goblin armies which have currently been receiving all the TLC. So, straight into it with a few Random Questions from the army book. 1. Telepathic Confabulation – Do you need 2 Slanns in order for this to work - Must both models have the Telepathic Confabulation special rule? 2. Predatory Fighter, realise this must have been asked many times..... but there seems to be no end to the debate on the various Warhammer forums. Does this apply to the 1st rank only? Fork Tongue
Thanks N810. 1: Telepathic Confabulations is 40 shades of useless! 2: How are folk playing this in the mean time, what's the take within the tournament arena? Fork Tongue
Yeah, Pred fighting needs an FAQ bad. As it stands, the rule still lets you generate extra attacks from the other ranks, but nothing lets you actually roll these extra attacks.
I just find it weird that GW would make people roll two sets of dice when attacking with their most normal units
My gameinggroup plays it as RAI so all attacks have predatory fighter. We think is almost sure its what GW meant with it. The only other option is that 9th will have some other rules that GW thinking of when makeing rules.
=> You mean sort of how cavalry have to roll two sets of dice? Gosh, so weird. I'm up to 12 games played with my lizards now, and have had PF attack in all 12. You know what I do? I roll small dice (cuz I have more of them) for the front rank and big dice for the second rank. One handful of dice. One roll. Then I look at the dice and pick up my misses. Then I look at the remaining small dice for sixes and roll more dice from the misses I just picked up for each six. It's not hard. It's not complicated. It doesn't even require separate rolls (which I realize you did not say is what you do, but some people do). It's pretty much exactly the same as when you have cavalry charge in and have to differentiate between the rider and mount attacks.
Could somebody help me out here...why would it only apply to the front rank? The rule simply says when rolling to hit, which is what support attacks do. Am I missing something?
Support attacks also say you can only make one attack from support attacks (3 for monstrous infantry). Any 6's rolled by the supporting attacks generates an additional attack, but the rules for Supporting Attacks prevents you from being able to use it. Nothing in the PF rule overrides the "one attack only" part of supporting attacks. We expect the FAQ will change this, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.
A staple no. Useless definitely not. Telepathic Confabulation is a good power, it's just that few armies have enough points for two Slann. I'd imagine most people running armies around 3500+ would do a Slann and Kroak or a Slann and an Carnosaur lord before they do two Slann too making Telepathic Conflagration even more situational. For the rare army with two Slann though, I think Telepathic Confabulation would see a lot of use. I am having a tendency to player bigger games these days and I look forward to taking Telepathic Confabulation out for a spin. I plan to go Life and Death for a first go and Life and High Magic for a second go. You are limited to casting a spell once per round but there is no limit on say having two Remains in Play spells at once so you can have Slann A cast Throne of Vines turn one, pass the spell turn two and then have Slann B cast the spell. By passing Throne of Vines around you can make it safer to cast nuke spells. If you are lucky, a Life/High Magic combo could give you two Thrones of Vines and two Fiery Conflagrations at once! Alternatively you can pass nuke spells from a bunkered Slann to a lone Slann to lower the miscast damage. If you have a lone Slann and a bunkered Slann there are all kinds of spells that help one type of Slann more than the other. If one Slann is about to be overwhelmed you can have give away his best spells before dying.
If we ever get a FAQ it has been 8 months since the last one and there are many little niggles that need addressing. We can only hope they get to it. ALSO PLEASE GOD LET THEM HAVE FORGOTTEN TO GIVE RIPPERS LIGHT ARMOR OHHHHH PLEAASE. And toad rage to the chief on ripper.
