Quick newb question on some of the spells like Pit o' Shades that say "place the template...and then it scatters D6". Do you count the models effected by the spell under the template at the point it ends up after the scatter roll? Or do you place the template, it scatters, and all models it touches on way to the point the scatter indicated are effected?

Another way of asking- does the vortex (or whatever) come into effect at the point you place it and then the scatter dice moves it over models it will effect or does the vortex materialize at the point indicated by the scatter role?

And yes, my head hurts but would be grateful for any help.

    Edit: for clarity (?!)

It doesn't drag across an area. It scatters D6, then you look at what is under it after it has scattered.

    What strewart said.
    Only vortexes slide like that.
