First of all, Hello everyone! my first post here, though I've been perusing these forums for a few weeks. New to the game as well.

Just a question about temple guard before I end up ripping the arms off my musician and standard bearer...are they worth it in the TG formation with Slann?

I thought I saw somewhere that they were next to worthless but I just wanted to be sure.

    Thanks :)

Musicians are always worth it now, it gives your units some opportunities to reform. You might as well take a standard bearer as well, as you can throw a magic banner on temple guard, and you want to win combats anyway right?

Most people take Full Command on TG.

ah. sweet, no ripping off of arms then! Thanks for the quick reply!

Haven't had a chance to read through all the rules yet, just got my book yesterday.

Even champions, which are normally not worth their points in my opinion, are very important in a temple guard unit. They can accept challenges targeted at the slaan, which makes them priceless.

Just a quick point, it is almost never worth ripping musician and standard bits off to replace with normal. The game changes for each army approximately every 3-4 years between a new edition and a new book and thats not really a long time. You can always put the command models in the back rank and remove them first as casualties, treating them as just rank and file guys.

@Sun Drinker, I am 99% sure that since the Slann is in the second rank he can't actually be issued a challenge or accept one so he is safe until most of the unit is destroyed. The champ is still useful to throw out his own challenge to hopefully stop a combat character destroying half your unit.

Plus if you trick your champion out right he is your best chance of taking down a character and getting some underdog challenge victory points. That would be an interesting topic to explore later.

In my opinion the Temple Guard are best with a full command.
they also have the best champ as he can actualy take
a couple of points worrth of magic items,
helping him actualy rival some of the
characters who might issue a challange.

How many points of magic items can a unit champion take? Does that apply to saurus? And skinks (unit champions, that is)?

    Just wondering.

The champ can take only a single magic item, up to a limit of 25 points. (Not more than 1 item)
