Ive always liked TG, their fluff and their use in games. I never liked a slaan running around on his own, however effective It may be.

People are saying TG arnt much good in 8th as Big ranked units will be stubborn anyway.

i just wanted to ask if people still thought TG had sufficient effectiveness to warrant taking in 8th.

Why would the TG still not be a viable unit?

In 8th Ed no one will put a Slann in a unit of Saurus since he will sit in the front rank with the magic/shooting rules change. He will be targeted and killed too easy.

TG are stubborn on LD 9 with the Slann. The LM units will generally be smaller then the enemy (unless) you plan on running 30+ Saurus blocks. So the Stubborn will help.

TG will still fight higher T opponents better then spear saurus due to S5 and similar AS.

With the magic rules change, you are going to want to protect your Slann who can cast as a Large Target buffin, hexing and nuking with an additional power dice per spell. (as long as that stays the same of course after the 6th)

While spear saurus will still be great, there will be uses for the TG if you desire a magic based army.

My Temple guard will probably still be around as a nice support unit for my Saurus and carrying the statue of spite. If that fails I'll be eager to give my Revered guardian that extra punch in the form of a magic weapon/armour/whatever or just drop him.

If they ain't sticking around I'll just convert my standard bearer into a battle standard bearer.

For the record I've never played a slann, so I have no input on putting slann in the unit. But TG are generally good support units that can tie things up easily.

    Cheers!

I think they will be pretty good actually, with the ability to put the reroll to hit banner on them via the Slann, as well as all the buffs that will be flying around. They are going to be the guys that get stuck into combat and continually chop away at people.

Considering that with the lore of life that the Slann can now resurrect Temple Guard,
Yea it think we will still see the being used fairly often.

In my last game I charged 11" into a unit of 30 seaguard, 10 wide, I had more ranks and so at resolution he was looking for insane courage which he failed allowing me to overrun into his Bolt Throwers in the hill behind and allowing me to score a massacre.

If I drop my TG down to 5 wide than I could add another 2 TG and get another rank thus increasing my chances of outranking.

The biggest issues people have with TG is the miscast chart and the outranking rules. These are issues which are easily overcome. Lore of life, cupped hands, soul of stone are all ways of limiting the damage from miscasting. The new lores and the way that people seem to be taking to the new rule system suggests that outranking isn't going to be hard and so TG will still retain their elite infantry status against horde blocks of core troops, and lest we not forget, stubborn, LD9, Cold-Blooded, Re-roll...even if we lose combat that unit is sticking around...
