So outside of a ban on special characters, is their any reason not to always take him? Lore Master heavens is really nice. It lets you rain down long ranged hits on enemies trying to avoid you. Comet is the hard counter for a castled gun line, and Tetto does it better than anyone. Boost to the magic phase is good for any type of magic build. Vanguard is great for any type of melee build. I haven't been able to put together a list where it isn't made stronger by making room for this tiny 185 point force multiplier. -Matt
I wasn't originally considering him in any of my lists... but the more I think about it the more I can't see why you wouldn't take him unless you are foregoing all casting. He's a steal for 185 and in the Hero slot. At lower level point games he is down right OP.
He is really good, and I intend on using him. However, I might consider not using him if I wanted to run a Slann in Temple Guard. Reason being is that rerolling 1's will result in more miscasts, and most of the miscast results will wipe out 50 percent of the Temple Guard.
I've used him in 4 straight games and love him. I am running a monster mash and the vanguard moves are priceless! Couple that with the threat of a comet every turn...what's not to like?!
used him 4 or 5 times every time worth his points in gold the vanguard alone putting my horde of saurus and a steg and my coldones 12" forward in two of the games meaning that my opponent only had 1 turn to deal with them before they smash into their lines then with the slan it allows for you to confidently cast with 2dice spells that need a 10 or less also being a lore master giving him a awesome tool box of spells to use not a auto take but i have really surrugged to not include him and in low points hes gold all i say is give him a go you will love him
If your opponent goes first, he's welcome to charge into my saurus spears. If your opponent goes first, you can declare a charge on your first turn. The cannot charge is limited to if you go first. Of course, you could always close in less than 12" if you're worried. -Matt
You could also deploy the units you intend to vanguard very close together so if your opponent charges one of them, he is open to a counter or counter flank charge from one of the other vanguarded units. I can't wait to try this out with Tetto.
Think of a High Magic Slann, all those 5+ to cast spells you can throw a single die and only fail on the initial cast if you toss a 2. Then you can reroll the 1's and get the spell off on a 3+. It's not bad odds, and if you fail and get broken concentration Tetto still has plenty of decent spells to use.
Lets see if I can clear it up for you a bit. The spell requires a 5+ on the cating die. A Slann is a lvl4 wizard. 5-4=1, however, a natural die roll of 1 or 2 breaks concentration (regardless of wizarding lvl) and fails to cast. So any die roll of 3+ successfully casts the spell. Tetto can allow 1s to be re-rolled for all friendly wizards, thus making it easier to successfully cast a 5+ spell on a single die due to a 2 being the only failed roll possible on the first roll. If a 1 is rolled, the Slann can reroll, in which case a 1 or 2 would fail.
so i want to ask about his possition in a skrox unit he will be in the second rank between the 2 krox?
Stick him in the side of the 2nd rank. You touch 6 skinks and 1 krox that way. In the center you touch 8 skinks and 2 krox. Take a look at the miscast table and you'll see why side is better. -Matt
