Honestly, I don't remember much else of the battle. It's been a few weeks ago, however, I was privy to an epic last stand by a single temple guard protecting his slann. I only run 12 templeguard in my list, primarily because the guys I usually play rare make contact with my slann's unit. I tend to castle him behind my saurus and make my skink priest on his steg the 'bait' instead. That being said, my Slann is rather fond of blowing holes in his own temple guard. My buddies got wise to me using cupped hands, and now they tend to hide their wizards out of sight, so he goes poom! a lot. This particular incident resulted in the S10 template around the wizard, which ate all but 4 of the TG. My opponent was playing high elves and shot a purple sun at me right after this happened which ate my entire block of 18 saurus and stopped right in front of the slann, eating 3 more of his TG. So all that was left was the guardian. He ran a 5 man (er... elf) cav into the unit next turn. The guardian held off all 5 of them, knocking one off each turn for 4 turns. All the while, the geriatric slann was flailing about. I picture my slann fighting in melee the same way Mr. Burns from the simpsons attacks people. Eventually the cav broke and the guardian ran them down (with the slann tootling around in his magic hover-chair rascal scooter) The slann/TG unit went on to win the game by clearin the 3 remaining archers from the tower. The Slann sitting atop the tower, basking in all his glory... Seriously though, I can guarentee my TG has taken more casualties to their own slann than to anything my friends have thrown at them. That old toad is going to die in his sleep one day and no one's going to ask 'any' questions...
I just remembered this was the same game the skink priest blew himself, along with his crew and the entire howdah, off the back of his steg. The steg went stupid, but still served to knock off a small unit of cavalry with a flank charge. We havent quite finished painting/modeling our armies, so the result was what appeared to be a giant stegadon chasing a lone horse across the battlefield. We came to reason horses are to stegadons as cats are to dogs.
Fun!! In my opinion, it's these type of "impossible" outcomes that truly make this game fun! Whatever story you put with it, to witness a successful last stand from unit is just awesome (not to mention the surprised albiet wtf look on your opponents face when his larger unit is not only beaten, but ran down!).
A point to note: If you have no wizards in line of sight for cupped hands, you still ignore the miscast, you just cannot pass it off to someone else.
