is this magic item really worth it? would you take this item say over the glyph necklace? Have any of you used it? if so did it work out well or did you end up wishing you hadn't bothered? what are your views on this item?
I think it's a good item but the times I've used it I completely forget about it, rendering it useless. I'm always like "Aww man, I forgot your -1 to hit me..." but by then it's too late. It would only be good if your character hunting IMO, in which case I think you'd want the 5+ save instead. I think having the 5+ ward save is better for the points. Just my two cents. Iggy Koopa
This item might get better with the new edition, where you can't stack saves. Might be better off with -1 to hit and a big armor save than big armor save and ward.
Agree with the last statement. If the rumors are true about only being able to use one armor save then yes, this item would be better. Until then, I'd stick with the ward save myself. Up to you. Iggy Koopa
even then, i think i'd rather have the 2+ ward against first wound taken, purely because i seem to remember to use it
I think that item works out to be better than the 5+ ward anyway... and so long as you have good armor it will still be a good choice. It should save you from the odd cannonball that hits your Oldblood. Why 2+ one use save is better than the 5+ ward save... statistically. The numbers for the 2+ one use are easy, 5/6 of the time you will save the first wound, or 83% chance. But surely it is better to have 5+ forever you may say! Well let's see, an Oldblood has 3 wounds, and you will take your ward save last so at most, you can fail 3 tests. What are the odds of failing all three tests? 2/3 * 2/3 * 2/3 = 8/27 or 30%. The odds of the 2+ one-use ward being useless? only 17% But the difference goes further... What if the first wound comes from a great cannon? Odds of saving the first wound are 83% vs. 33%... and let's face it, D6 wounds is scary to 3 wound models! 2+ one-use ward is better in my opinion.
