As i understand this weapon, its basically like heroic killing blow?

Say I'm attacking a dark elf war hydra I manage to hit the hydra with all 5 attacks from my old blood. He has to take a LD test on the Hydra's LD of 6 (using its own unmodified LD). If it fails any of those 5 LD tests the Hydra is slain?

 

Yes, but keep in mind he can still use BSB re-rolls.
The item is fun to use on low LD foes either way, and even if they pass you still get to roll to wound and so on.

 

i can live with the re-rolls, but that is a sweet weapon!

 

It can be against the right opponent, i allways say give it a try and then decide

 

Actually he takes a LD test per hit.

 

The downside is it costs a lot of points so there isn't much allowance for other stuff, and you need a combat old blood to use the weapon which is not really optimum to take these days considering how effective Slann are. But yes, pretty sweet weapon.

 

It was probably worth the points last edition when they wouldn't get to re-roll the Ld test. I say probably because it used the OBs entire magic allowance. This edition with the re-rolls around and using the entire magic item allowance it is best left to themed or special scenario games.

 

It's not the whole allowance tho.

 

yea you have 30 points left for other magic gear,
Usualy he was run on a cold one with light armor and a shield,
and spent the magic points on a ward save or something.

 

35 just enough for a 5+

 

actually the hydra would use the handlers Ld (8) since the unmodified Ld is defined as the highest Ld IN THE UNIT in the latest FAQ.

The blade is great for killing monsters, but tbh its very expensive. i used it a while for giggles, but ill stay to my kitted out slann nowadays.

 

Not that is as good as it used to be, but say you hit the hyda four times (out of 5),
then he would have to take four leadership test with about an 80% chance to pass,
so thats 80% x 80% x 80% x 80% = 40% (more or less) chance of passing all the leadership test.
(I think my fuzzy math is about right)

 

Check the Empire FAQ's and Warseer, I think it might use the drivers stats for a lot of stuff now.

 

Mount on a Cold One and use for Monster Hunting.

 

I checked up on the steam tank too. Unfortunately it says it auto-passes all characteristic tests except for initiative which it auto-fails...

 

actually, a Ld test is NOT a characteristics test (BRB page 10) so the steam tank will still have to test. it has Ld 10 though.
