While browsing Forgeworld i found out that there is actually a lizardmen model on there. I don't think it's legal in most tournaments, but the model is gorgeous, and the rules are well, interesting. The Ethereal upgrade makes it all way to good to be true, yes, you have a 525 point monster, but it is impervious to most attacks, and it is a lot stronger then most models. If you really want to go for the ultimate cheese, also make it unbreakable (even though it gets slow). Unbreakable with ethereal without unstable, what are you doing Forgeworld.. What do you guys think, would you run it in a tournament, would you run it in friendly games(with or without ethereal) http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/DREAD_SAURIAN.html
Its quite old news, but interesting to talk about just the same! Its not legal in Tournaments yet, which is quite clear: Its an absolute beast, and I would bring it more often than not if I could. The reason I say "yet" is because when one puts it up to The Eternity King, Karl Franz ascended and the new bloodthirsters, it actually seems fair to bring. In a tournament I would run it like this Dread Saurian - 450 Ethereal = 75 -1 to Hit + Daemons and Undead attacking it gets ASL = 35 -2 Movement +1 Toughness + Unbreakable = 35 == 595 It is a HORRIBLY nice-priced beast we have here! And most armies would struggle to deal with it. I am getting quite excited just to imagine! Dont like the model though.
I don't like the price of the model. The model itself is pretty good in my opinion, but many people seem to dislike it.
I would LIKE to like it, there's just something awkward about it.. I think I expected something closer to the artwork in the book.
That's generally true for most Monstrous Arcanum models, the Magma Dragon and Dread Maw being other prime examples. The Dread Maw especially looked so much better in the book :s The Dread Saurian is just a little too wiry and gangly for me. I look at it and see a grumpy old Carnosaur. "Get the hell off my lawn!" etc etc
I do sortoff like the look of out, while the price is ofcourse completely absurd, but this is to be expected in Forgeworld. For the price of their Titans, you can buy an actual car in my country.. I see that you agree with me that it is completely overpowered, i hope WHF keeps out the overpowered models, the competetive WH40K meta is dominated by Forgeworld, and this makes it that the good rules are splattered across white dwarves and obscure sites, extremely annoying..
I'd be surprised if they didn't include a Lord + tier if they intend on keeping Nagash etc in play. It's another lucrative opportunity to sell overpriced models that people will clamour for to get the edge/push back against the edge in the game. With rumours of the Fantasymarines around I can easily see it as another attempt to emulate 40k's successes.
Did you just quote the single word hope from me? XD I think that the end times will be an optional way of playing the game, as it is now. Certain game changes, such as the 50/50 rule are in place, and there where some buffs for the Undead, but i think that the regular way of playing the game will not be in any trouble.
This is precisely what I worry about. What if the end times is indicative of what we might find in 9th edition? Testing out the waters as it were.
Let's hope it is not, it is all just rumour mongering untill 2 weeks from release. Some rumours quote that there will be three main ways of playing warhammer, Skirmish, Normal and End Times, i would be in for a system like that.
Very true. I've read this too. There are so many contradictory rumours floating around it is difficult to make sense of them.
I was thinking (and still am) about doing a huge conversion/sculpt on the current GW carnosaur to turn it into a dread saurian. The dread saurian is a nice change for your standard LM tactics, especially as it doesn't have the large target (or largest of monsters/colossal beast) rule.
Me too, for £50 you get a great kit and have £70 left in your pocket, alas my sculpting skills are poor but I may have a go.
