so other day i had 2 games and antho i had the worst luck, (2/3 salamanders ate all there handlers turn 1...) i found that most of the time my opponents would line up or get fast cav/fast moving units with my sallies and simply deny me any shooting... so my question is how do you guys counter this? i was thinkin sure i could hold them bak for a turn or 2 and then flank but then i think shooting will simply laser beam them.... haha any advice or tips would be great
You have movement 12" skirmishers that can march and shoot. So that gives them an incredible amount of flexibility, and you can get from one end of your battleline to the other in 2 turns, losing only 1 turn of shooting, so I would simply redeploy, as their cav wont be able to maneuver as easily. Of course, if you know they will do so, you can also just plan accordingly. Place down your sallies early, meaning you know where their cav will be, and then near the end place your counters to cav after they have placed theirs. or, run up to their face and just shoot them. Not many units can survive 3-6 sallies to the face, and their armour piercing makes them exceptionally good at taking out cav, and it is relatively easy to force a panic test. Also always keep in mind if they do get charged, that they cause fear.
Another thing you can do is combine your units of salamanders. If you put two in a unit, they share the handlers (2 sallies, 6 or 8 handlers).
I believe Razordons are a good shield for Salamanders. If you keep the Razordoons between the fast cavalry and the Salamanders any would be attackers faces a double strength stand and shoot. Javelin Skinks works about the same but doesn't take Rare points.
good ideas guys the deploying and then simply moving around is a good idea.. its better to waste a turn then getting charged turn 1 and byebye sallie ahaha. also i do forget the fear alot.. zzzz (new player and all ahaha)
also in CC a. do skinks get to attack... i think its a no but just conferming b. if all handlers are lost i read that (must take a LD test if faild roll Monster reaction table) so does that mean if u pass the LD roll they act as normal? thanks for the info ahaha
sallie's march and shoot means you can run rings around fast cav, shooting the bejesus out of them the whole time.
When I play my priority for Terradons and Chameleons is to kill my enemy's fast cav and chaff using rocks etc. in order to win control of the battlefield. This is usually enough to keep the sallies safe. If need be I hold back with the salamanders, it's far better to have your Sallies unleashing turns 3-6 then just a few good shots in the first turn. That's my style of play though, My kill list is my opponent's fastest units down to his slowest. That way I can move where I want. Cheers. Jeff
very good point jeff, hmmm going to hav another game or to in 2days so ill take these points and see how i go haha =)
To answer your previous questions, yes the handlers do get to attack. Also, if you lose the handlers and pass your leadership test, you do not have to roll on the Monster reaction table.
bahahahahha nice drawing bob ahahah!!! and interesting info about the LD test and the skinks getting attacks.. makes them even better!
