I'm running into a bit of a quandary about how run a tournament TL list I've been tooling with. It's got a slann, engine, starseer, two stegs and saurus guard battleline, and a solar engine. That leaves about 445 points to play around with, and in two separate lists I've ran Gotrek, and then for the same points as him threw in a skink priest, chief on steg, and emerald lifeswarm. Gotrek is super slow but once he's near an objective there's not going to be much that can make him budge. He only saw combat twice in the 4 round game (called it then) and annihilated both units, but my opponent was easily able to screen around him all game. The skink chief on steg can hit hard but doesn't have Gotrek's staying power, lifeswarm helped guarantee some healing, and the priest was well worth it for buffing the bastiladon night and day difference in the performance. i'm not sure how many of you have ran gotrek, but in the tournament scene is he mandatory? Or is the more option list going to require more finesse but ultimately help more? Love to hear y'all's opinions on the guy.
If you are thinking of running gotrek think. "How can I get him into the enemy fastest?" What are your options?
I have a threat about tournament lists a few threads down from here. Have a look at the lists posted there. But it seems Gotrek is not very popular for winning seraphon lists, he did not show up in any of the 5-0 or 4-1 lists I found. He is fine at what he does but I don't feel he make our tzeench or slaves of darkness match ups better which are what we are really worried about. Sadly many of the big bads have enough movement to not really worry about Gotrek and he can zone an area but that's it.
Really interesting that he's not showing up in the better Seraphon lists. What are you (or others) doing to handle Mega-Gargants? I run him because I'm worried about that matchup specifically and I don't have much experience with it.
Try checking out this video. Caleb has a lot of videos on his channel explaining different aspects of seraphon. Just take everything with a grain of salt because he is using averages and ideal conditions.
I ran Salamander spam in a list against archaon and the amount of mortals they did to him allowed me to eventually kill him, so I'd say in most cases salamanders are the answer to killing stuff like Gargants. I personally like to run a bunch of big monsters even though salamanders would probably be the better play. Gotrek is fun and can help in certain match ups but considering the main things that hurt us (tzeentch archaon) the lack of mobility on gotrek doesn't help. I'll have to get more games with him in, specifically against things like gargants and see how it goes
The gist of Caleb's video and what I've seen in my own experience trying to kill really tough things like Maw-Krushas is that you have to throw a lot more points worth of stuff at things like Gargants to kill them than what they cost. So while throwing everything you have into shooting, then charging a couple Stegadons and Salamanders into a Gargant will probably bring him down, you're still probably losing one of those units in retaliation, which then hurts your chances of taking down the other Gargants in the following turns. Gotrek seems like he can really easily deal with Gargants specifically, but he doesn't always benefit you against other factions.
to deal with Gargants using Seraphon only, your best tools are essentially: - salamanders spam - a fully kitted Stegadon Chief, with also arcane tome and Fiery weapon. Or incandescent rectrices Gotrek is fun, but i would never suggest to bring him at a tournament
I blow him up with mws and javelins then I crush em with either my carno or myself if I got nothing else to aim for
So I’ve been wondering how to beat gargants as well. I found a list that while I didn’t win I definitely made the game hard for him. I ran 3 bastiladons and 3 stegadons 2 skink priests and a skink chief on stegadon. I killed 8 of 9 baby giants and the one mega gargant he brought. It was a fun game but I don’t know that my list would do much into a competitive sons of behemat list.
Right now Salamander spam or Thunder Lizard shooting and Stegadons are basically our only way of dealing with Gargants at this time
I’m enjoying the 7 monsters 2 priests list. It’s fun and if people aren’t ready it’s really devastating
You see them fire Lizards them big dinos with layers on them and our giant other dinos? Light em up and Make a kaiju movie
