    Topic #15 - Top Ten Movie/TV Speeches

We're looking at speeches made by movie or tv characters. Try not to include any "one-liners" as that is a topic for a different list. Aside from that, sky's the limit.

Curious to see what you guys come up with! I'll wait till a couple of lists are posted before unveiling my list.

Now this is a challenge, I tend not to focus so much on the speeches as battle scenes and verbal interplay between multiple characters, but I'll see what I can come up with.

Standard boiler plate: Top ten? These are speeches/monologues that I really enjoy at any rate. They're movies that jumped to my mind as I sit at my computer. There are more great speeches/monologues from movies that I am forgetting and I look forward to seeing those lists.

    Quint's Indianapolis monologue - Jaws
Yoda's "The Force" Speech - Empire Strikes Back
Darth Vader's "I Am Your Father" speech - Empire Strikes Back
William Wallace's "Freedom" speech - Braveheart
Morpheus's "What is the Matrix?" monologue - The Matrix
Agent Smith's "Virus" monologue - The Matrix
Jules's "Ezekiel" monologue (both scenes, but specifically the diner scene) - Pulp Fiction
Herb Brooks "You Were Born for This" speech - Miracle
Joker's "You Wanna Know How I Got These Scars" monologues (both scenes, but I like the "Why So Serious" scene best) - Dark Knight
Captain America's "Price of Freedom is High" speech - Captain America: Winter Soldier

There are great scenes in Gladiator, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, 300, A Few Good Men, and Blade Runner

Right... for me, the first five are pretty clear. I must reason on the other 5. :p

Al Pacino - any given sunday

    Rutger Hauer - Blade Runner

    Kenneth Branagh - Henry V

Robin Williams - Dead Poets Society

    Marlon Brando - Apocalypse now

A very solid list. The only one I'm not familiar with is the Herb Brooks speech, since I've never seen that movie. I enjoyed each of the others though. One of your speeches made my list too... but which one?

While none of those speeches are in my list, they are all pretty damn good. I haven't seen those movies (except Bladerunner), but I enjoyed watching the clips that you provided (even without the context from the films from which they come).

My favourite by far is the Al Pacino Any Given Sunday speech. That was superb.

Thanks. I wonder if my list feels a little "lightweight" in that, it generally includes more contemporary movies and not more "classic" movie speeches (you know, like Lawrence of Arabia or something). For example, I've also not actually seen any of the movies in the list @Killer Angel posted, except Blade Runner. I've seen some scenes here and there from most of them, but not the full movies.

In case you haven't already searched for it on YouTube

Although I know you're a big Star Wars fan, based on a few other posts, I'm going to guess the Braveheart speech made your list.

And finally, a couple of "bonus tracks"

    Willem Dafoe - Spiderman
(is this a monologue? or rather a dialogue? :D)

and a little bit from TV shows.
    Jeff Daniels - The Newsroom

Final disclaimer: im' not completely sure these 10+2 are the absolute best for me. I'm pretty sure this list could change, depending on my current mood.
