I have an upcoming tournament next week. It's ony 800 points, so my list is a follows: Skink Priest, Level 2 Ruby Ring of Ruin Diadem of Power ..........150 pts 20 Saurus Warriors, FC 20 Saurus Warriors, FC 10 Skink skirmishers ..........570 pts 1 Salamander, extra Handler ..........80 pts ..........800 points Without changing this list, what advice would you give on how to use it? What should I watch out for in particular? Please be as detailed as you can - thanks
I would put the priest in one of the saurus units. He is too vulnerable to run with the skirmishers. I would hang back with the unit that the priest is in and try to set up a flank charge once the first suarus unit is in combat.
Does the Skink Priest get a Look Out Sir! roll despite the fact that his base size is incompatible with that of the Saurus? Also, if the opposing army has a lot of cavalry or chariots, wouldn't there be a risk of that one forward Saurus unit being flanked? The second Saurus unit with the priest would also have to be positioned so that the priest gets a good Line of Sight but then it won't be able to join the combats quick enough. What do you think?
Hello, It looks like a Solid list. I prefer a diffrent stzle of play, so my list would be completly diffrent. I have only 2 questions, how will you deal vs Vampire counts? The old Rulebook would eat this in no time. Now you will stuck and It will be a draw. Orcs and TK on these kind of points can do some serious damage..(30 Savage Big Uns with a 5+ ward and 10 Orc boar Boyz for example). But Its a solid list, and should do fine, not many things can kill 40 saurus Warriors
I believe the look out sir is based on the type of model, not the base. Since the priest is classed as infantry, he gets the 2+ los roll. However, since he is of a different base size, he has to go to the right of the movement tray (as if he is attached to the unit). This may not be an issue with your opponent. You could ask if you could put the priest in the unt also. One time I used blue tack to put a chief on a larger base so that he would fit into a unit of saurus. I would not count on that though. To avoid a flank charge, I would use a combination of the skirmishers to redirect and the sally to roast anything comet that direction. I would also make sure to turnt he unit in a way such that a flank charge would be harder to complete. At 800 points, I do not think vampires or TK will present too much trouble. The saurus will be able to take the damage. Not so sure if you run into some black orcs though. The signature Heavens spell could help in that regard.
In the previous round, I found Orc units difficult to deal with. I had no particularly powerful spell or shooting, nor could my Saurus beat them in combat. A unit of 20 Saurus are more survivable against shooting that Kroxigors... though Kroxigor are very fast and get in the charge soon. Against undead, the elite units are the problem. Once they die, I eventually win out unless there is some hero, but nothing that strong at only 200 points limit. And I never realised how powerful Iceshard Blizzard was - it's really effective. However, my biggest concern is still fast hard-hitting units. How should I be looking o deal with them? Re-directing?
Redirecting is a good way, but with 1 Skirmisher unit that will be a problem. Cold ones are a very good hard hitting units at low points, but they are stupid, so iceshard blizzard on them will be a good option(allthough LD8 is still formidable). Other than those, most cavalery units are low in number, and all You need to do it to take the charge on the skinks, and let them over run ino sauruses.
However, I have seen 10-strong knight units. 11 WS4 Str. 5 attacks kills 4 Saurus (incl. mounts' attacks) whilst against 1+ save, Saurus only kill 1. So, I'd lose by 2. I also use Salamanders to re-direct. Elves/hordes try to kill them, and forget the Saurus.
Hello, If The kill 4 and you kill one, you still have +2 Cr for ranks +1 for standard so its a draw, and even so, you have steadfast, and the next turn is yours
