As of late I have noticed that a good couple of Lizardmen players have played/play Elves. It applies to myself too, being a former wood elf player... So, is it a trend or just a coincidence? Cheers!
I'm also guilty, I painted but didn't play DE back in 5th/6th as I was too young really (it was a fad at school). They will be my next army with a BG themed cavalry army. I have 32 BG models sitting there and so will make two units of 5 COK with BG torsos as well as two units of converted shades, two sets of 5 converted harpies and three sets of converted dark riders. Not sure to go for magic with a lvl 4 and lvl 2 and BSB or no magic with a couple of combat characters.
No coincidence, just math. There are 3 elf armies. There are going to be a disproportionate number of people playing elves because there are more armies, and people tend to build an army that their friends don't have.
You could say that of humans too, with empire, brettonia and chaos mortals. Or chaos with DoC, WoC and BoC. I still feel I hear more of HE/WE/DE as side armies (especially HE/DE) and the army I was going to start was a toss-up between WE and LM since they both can be painted so colourfully.
I myself, am I High Elf player. What caused myself to switch to the Lizardmen was the fact that I was tired of getting wiped from the table as a High Elf player. One tiny mistake as a HE player can be fatal if your opponent exploits it. Like if you move your Dragon Princes in charge range of a tough unit and they get ran down your flank is gone. Lizardmen are powerful magic users with badass elite infantry. Which is why i switched.
Hmmm I'm not sure, it could be something that has just stood out to you more as an elf player. For me, I buy an army based on the models, so while it is true that the LM offer me a refreshing and completely different playing style to what I'm used to (well, tougher troops. I'm still going combat heavy) its mostly that I started HE because I really liked their models, and now I'm starting LM because I really like the models.
i play high elves and am probably going to start playing lizardmen. What attracted me to the army is it has so many charactersistics which are opposite to high elves. e.g. high strength and toughness, low WS, low initiative, no effective long range shooting, big monsters, skirmishers, wide variety of units etc. I actualy don't particularly like lizardmen models.
I'm half guilty. I'm looking to play a new army, and i got wood elves in my scope, but I haven't decided yet. I like their look and the rules for their troops. But their magic items suck and none of them got a decent save.
I'm guilty. I've played nothing but the High Elves for the past 4 years, with a few exceptions, but now I'm thinking about getting back to my lizards again.
I started as Lizardmen, but I did move over to Wood Elves, and then back to Lizardmen. Am I guilt of vicissitude?
Never played Elves. Empire, Dwarves, and Lizards are my loves. I have considered dabbling in other armies, and may try Vampire Counts (so I can have an evil army), but I'll never play elves. Too haughty and too fragile.
I currently have lizardmen and O&G, I used to have dwarfs (hooray for battle for skull pass) but sold them/traded them to get more lizards and O&G. I WANT to start a wood elves army, I also WANT to start a beastmen army (might actually start this one when the new book comes out) I WANT to start a tomb kings army. In fact I WANT to have an army from every race but that is a rather expensive project so I will make myself content with slowly building up my two current forces until they are big enough (a very ambiguous statement I know, but I also don't actually know when I will feel they are big enough) But I think that there is something in that statement that a lot of Lizzie players will play elves, I think that is primarily because the two are very different styles of armies and as such the one offers a diversion from the other.
I play Dark elves since the 6ed and play Tomb kings since I'm a big fan of egyptian' stuff ( and have them since their release). The mayans incas look of the lizzies is what always attracted me to play this army.
