Greeting, as you can guess from the title I want to create a good list to play competition, since I have played just 4 games in 8Th edition I'm looking for more experienced opinion; thank you (i don't know what i will find in Milan, maybe a bit off all). What kind of tactics do you suggest, I thought to create a list specialized in one thing, able to force my opponents to play my style; what do you think about it?? Here my attempt (not tested yet): 1) Slann: focus of mistery, rumination, cogitation, bsb with standard of discipline, cupped hands, bane head (tot 475 points). 2) 2 units of Saurus Warrior of 20 models: spears, full command (tot 270 + 270). 3) 1 unit of Temple Guard of 26 models: full command, banner of eternal flame, dragonfly of quicksilver to the champ (tot 471). 4) 2 hunting pack of 2 salamanders: 2 additional handler (tot 160 + 160). 5) 2 units of chameleon skinks of 8 models: (tot 96 + 96). Saurus Warrior and TG are able to win against his core troops and wait enough to let another unit make a support charge. I hope to end my deployment befor my opponent to have more possibility to take 1st turn most of times. I fear to be too weak against magic (at my 1st failure to cast or dispell I'm out) and against war machines and his units of disturbance. What do you think?? better to use stegas and terradon, and some other heroes?? Thank you.
List is a pretty basic LM list. Personally I would drop the TG to 20. The 2 Saurus units I would bump them up to 25 and drop the spears and go hand weapon and shield. Slann maybe drop Mystery and take the plaque of Tepok (only 15 points and still get 5 spells) and the plaque of Protection (2+ Ward vs Ranged Attack). that is jus my 2 cents
I agree that the Saurus units should be bigger. Spears are not so much an advantage with 20 warriors, as soon your losses will be cutting into the extra attacks you get- plus taking hand weapons will save you some points. Trimming a few chameleons and maybe a salamander will get you the points. The temple guard seem right to me, however. As much as the enemy will target that unit, it pays to be able to take some losses. Overall a good, reliable list.
I will have to play 5 or 6 times in 2 days, for my slann I will chose more than one lore (most of time life, but even light, death and shadow have proven themself usefull) why guys you think at spears as not woth theire points value??? To use them in a good way I'd better take a big unit of saurus warrior with a scar vet in?? es: 28 saurus warrior with scar vet with: blade of chotec, LA, coldone, shield, amulet of MR(2) more than 5: if you talk about skermischer because theire minimum is 10, chamo because 6 are 12 shots (a couple of 6es at least, so 2 wounds)
You should choose the Lore in the list in 8th edition. It can be viewed as rude/list tailoring otherwise. For 1 point you gain 33% more attacks when you don't charge (and have 3 or more ranks) and lose 6+ ward. IMO not worth it. IMO skirmishers should always be minimum. 6 are just as hard to kill as 5 (it takes 1 charge for either unit). 3 units of 5 are far more annoying and hard to kill thank 2 units of 8.
good to know because I did not know, I will check again the rules. Probably I'll chose Lore of Life. So: 1) Slann: focus of mistery, rumination, cogitation, bsb with standard of discipline, cupped hands, bane head (tot 475 points). 2) 2 units of Saurus Warrior of 25 models: full command (tot 305 + 305). 3) 1 unit of Temple Guard of 26 models: full command, banner of eternal flame (tot 461). 4) 2 hunting pack of 2 salamanders: (tot 150 + 150). 5) 2 units of chameleon skinks of 5 models: (tot 60 + 60). Total: 1.966 points (34 points left) Better this way?
I know people might not agree with me but I would drop TG to 18-20 (Life Slann can make the lower numbers stick around longer or grow them back) and take those points and add a fighty Scar Vet or a Skink priest with a Dispel Scroll or Cube of Darkness if you can find the points. But that is just my personal play style, so take it all with a grain of salt. May the luck of the Old Ones be with you.
