This may be an odd topic for the painting and converting thread, but I'm looking for suggestions on movies or TV series to watch while painting my lizardmen :)

These days I can't sit down and paint while doing nothing else, a friend of mine listens to music while painting but I just get bored. So I'm looking for something to get me in the Lizardmen-ish mood. Preferably something long and drawn out, like a series of movies or TV series. For example, I recently painted 28 night goblins while watching the last 4 Harry Potter movies. I painted 10 Tyranid gargoyles, 3 Raveners and a Trygon while watching the entire Prison Break series back to back (hadn't seen them when they were on TV ;)). While painting a Zoanthrope, a bunch of knights and most my Lizardmen I was watching Supernatural and also Legend of the Seeker.

I'm thinking maybe getting some Primeval DVD box sets, have only seen a couple of episodes but that might get me in a Lizardy mood. Was also thinking of Apocalypto for some inspiration, but its not that long and probably isn't that easy to watch while simultaneously painting :) Any other suggestions?

While on the topic, I'm interested what you guys do while you paint? Listen to music? Watch TV? Stare out the window at the view? Sit in the corner quietly? What keeps you motivated to paint hour after hour?

I put on some music dvds, this is not as boring as just listening to music as you can watch the concert on tv.
But it also isn't as distracting from the painting as following a series or movie.

I set my record the other night, watching a concert of The Eagles and Phil Collin's Serious hits in berlin (2 dvds)
So that was about 3 hours, which gave me some 4 hours of non-stop painting total.

I try to get my friends over to paint. There has been many a slow friday night when we, being the cool kids that we are, would get together and paint.

I find that good conversation helps me focus, that or any sort of light sit-com, The big bang theory, How I met your Mother, Scrubs etc

I'm not a fan of watching tv while painting; however, I do enjoy a good chat with friends. I mosty listen to techno, which I generally can't stand, or heavy metal while I paint. It keeps the tempo up and I seem to finish things quicker.

Either listen to music or watch some kind of sitcom like Leokill27. I wouldn't want to watch something I hadn't seen before, because its hard to concentrate on both, and I wouldn't want to watch something really really funny because laughing messes up your painting!

I, too, am no fan of painting while watching... anything. Listening to music suits me better or just taking breaks. However, if watching something while painting suits you, then I highly suggest watching the HBO series Game of Thrones. Season 1 has been completed. Before episode 2 aired, HBO announced season 2 is a go. If you've read the books, then you'll be VERY pleased with the incredible casting and best of all... sticking to the actual book! (though it helps immensely when the author of the book series - George RR Martin - wrote most of the episodes for first season and will continue to either write or approve next season).

If you don't have HBO, then you can download them via torrents. 10 episodes in all. Unfortunately, just read that Camelot from STARZ has just been cancelled for season 2.

maybe I am repeating but, I think TV is too distracting. Audio books and radio plays work perfect. if TV then maybe some concert or one of this rare music channels.
there are radio channels on the internet that play radio plays or themed music... which works perfect, and the best about them is, that they have nobody talking and no commercials

    Best,
    G.

Good suggestions, I might try and get my hands on all the Primeval series. I have only seen a few episodes and I dont even know what season they were from, so I'll start from scratch. Might try stargate too, I've actually never watched a whole episode of stargate, lol.

I know what people are saying with TV being a bit too distracting or engaging for a painting task, but I find it suits well. Once I tried doing a whole day of painting with a friend and twe got nothing done because when we'd listen to music I'd get bored and start doing other things, and when we'd watch TV he'd get distracted and start watching the TV instead of painting (where as I'd just be glancing at the TV in my peripheral vision while painting). Perhaps my brain is just wired up to get bored if there's not multiple things to focus on.

These days I do all my painting infront of my PC. I move my keyboard back about 12" to fit my painting tray on the table. Watching TV on the PC is convenient, if something important happens on the show I can easily just rewind it. Watching prison break I'd often replay the same scene 3 or 4 times because I'd miss it, rewind, start painting again and miss it again, lol.

I started watching Deadliest Warrior on netflix while working on my Steg last night. I would just look up when someone started screaming, which was every few seconds, now that I think about it.

King of the Hill on Netflix... lol. There is like 250+ episodes and all the seasons.

It's dry humor so you won't bust out laughing but it is still amusing enough where you don't have to actually "watch" it.
