Good morning, I'm starting a lizardman force, and would like to start at 500pts. For there, I plan to build up my force at 250pt each block. List # 1 : saurus scar-veteran with light armor, shield, and mounted on a cold one 12 saurus warriors with spears 10 skink skirmishers 3 terradons 1 razordon or salamander with additional handler OR List # 2 skink priest ( level 2 ) skink priest with the Rod of Storm 10 skink skirmishers 10 skink skirmishers 3 terradons 1 salamander or razordon with addition handler So, what do you think? Which list is best for me , or would you have another suggestion? Thanks in advance.
When I run my Terradons I always include a skink chief on a tarradon. I give him the staff of lost suns (3 shots at str5 at a balistic skill of 5-hitting on 4s). This unit is a mage/war machine hunting unit that can conveniently drop rocks on another unit. I have also found that this unit draws fire fairly well. Just my 2 cents.
While I do like the skink chief on a terradon in some situations, in a 500 point list it is a lot of points to sink into a fragile unit. Also he would likely be your General(unless you spent half your points on chracters) and you wouldn't want him running off with a rather fragile unit of terradons, or drawing fire as he is rather fragile. I just feel that a skink chief on a terradon is a bit risky at 500 pts, at 1000 points I would say try it and see if you like it. I would definitely start with list #1 as it provides a very solid foundation and you probably won't go up against too much magic at that level and should be good. And the Scar-Vet can compete with any hero at that level. When you hit 750 I would add a skink priest for magic defense, and another unit of skirmishers(and of course you will still have more points to play around with). List #2 is just a tad too fragile in my opinion, and you have no real solid force to protect your priests. Also without going too much into it as there are lots of other topics discussing it, I would go with a salamander as they are more useful in general.
I would go for list #1 also. It is a solid starting list an provides a decent support units, with some mobility. I would go with a Salamander. Much more effective in my opinion. About the Skink Chief. He is not really worth it in my opinion. In every game I have played with him (except one), he has done extremely little to nothing at all. For a 100+ point character I expect him to do something useful and he never really amounts to anything.
