Well, now that I got myself a profile and all, I could just as well start posting... I haven't been playing for many years now and by accident started to get interested in WH again and started to think about liziez mainly as they are dippable and I'm hoping my work and friends will take up more of my time than WH will...

Anyhow, I have bought the book and have planned on starting collecting the army in a few weeks when I hope I'll manage to get myself a proper job. I don't aim to build a tier1 list but instead want a fluff based and fun list. That would mean not having any saurus (if possible, non at all, but I might consider getting a big boss on a knarloc) and I want a list with great comp. I'll mainly be playing casual and if I'd join a tourney I'd get much more out of winning 10% of the the time vs power gamers and watch their reactions than beating abscess infested teens 90% of the time and watching them cry... But I still want to make a DECENT tourney list (hence this thread).

I also spent the past 6 months in Guatemala, so I wanna fit some irl fluff into my army... I wanna build the list around Quetzalcóatl (Aztec) / Kukulcán (Mayan) / Gukumatz (K'iche' Mayan)... same thing different names, but they all roughly mean winged or feathered serpent (read about it on wikipedia to learn some about your lizziez that ain't in the book). Having that said I want SKINKS in the list and speed/flying and poison as themes and I want a lot of anti-skaven fluff to go with it... Exactly what will be in the list and what will be fluff (unit fillers, base ornaments etc) isn't too important, but pls keep it in mind when commenting.

I was thinking about having a pillow-fighting cheif (maybe bsb) and 1-2 units terradons for flying. Maybe even a cheif on terradon, but I doubt it.

For poison there's really only the toad sweat and plain skinks. I might add a lost and found sunray, aka lasgun. ;oP

Rat poison would be mainly fluff, but I'm sure I'll add both Dagger of Sotek and Skavenpelt banner when the meta allows me to. My BSB will consist of a heavily peeling skaven no matter what, and with magnet's I'll make him fly between a base and stegi)

    Rough List:
    Chief + BSB
One of em on a stegi (or horned 1) and the other on foot with a feather in the hat
    poison, blowpipe and maybe

    Priest (lv2) x2
One on a tank and the other on his toes. Both will be more or less dispel caddies.

    Core:
2x Cohort with 2 krox and music

    1-2x mini (10) skinks

    2x smoking (blowpipe) skirmishers

    Special:
    4 krox
    4 terradons
    4 terradons
6-9 camouflage skinks (more than 5 only for catching fleeing troops)

    Rare:
    2x1 sallies

I would want to add a normal stegi but I think I'd lose too much comp on it, and depending on how phat the army is would I throw in a few more small units (á 10-15 ranked skinks) or a sally.

I know it's hard to comment on a "list" this incomplete, but I'll update it in a few days when I've decided what to do with the characters... I wanna be able to do some cool conversions for it too! (like maybe an altar for sotek on the tank)

When it comes to painting and converting, then I have in mind to cut off the fins on all plain stinkies. This makes the look a lot more like reptiles (Sotek FTW) and by leaving em on the characters and painting em brightly does it make em stand out and look quite awesome... (I hope)
I'll buy some old short bow dudes that I'll experiment with when doing the color schemes, but I was thinking about focusing on Red and Black, making their beer bellies (and fins) white. The (skaven) vicars will likely be all "white". Sallies and stegies will be different though, and snipers will be green with taped on pastel snakes.

    Inspiration for color scheme...

That tentative list is eerily similar to what I've scraped together... I didn't foreswear all saurus, but I did say no to anything below movement 6. Maybe it'll give you some ideas..

OB on Carno, BoR, Enchanted Shield, LA
Skink Priest on EotG, Diadem, Scroll
Scar-Vet on Cold One, BBoC, War Drums, LA, SH, BSB

    11 skinks + 1 krox muso, champ
    11 skinks + 1 krox muso, champ
    10 skinks + muso
    10 skinks + muso
    10 skink skirmishers
    10 skink skirmishers

    6 chameleon skinks
    4 Terradons
    4 Terradons
5 Cold One Cav, muso, warbanner

    1 Salamander /w extra handler
    1 Salamander /w extra handler

    2250 on the dot.

Anyway, I feel like the above could compete with some effectiveness at a tourney, but I'll find out eventually I suppose. I definitely feel the call to play with a very skirmishy list that uses guerilla tactics rather than massed infantry hammer and anvil. It seems only fitting for a jungle race to fight that way!

The first thing that caught my eye was 2 level 2 priests, one of them on an engine and you want them for scroll cadies?? Waay too many points invested for just antimagic. I usually get by with a level 1 wizard with 2 scrolls and a few well placed magic resistance items. You could either go priest on ancient, level 2 for the extra DD and diadem (again for DD) and scroll, or two level 1's walking around with 3 scrolls and a diadem. Or at the very least since an engine is really cool and skinks are cheap enough to be able to afford the extra wizard, drop them both to level 1. Magic defence does not want PD.

Have you done a brief points analysis? The list looks a touch small for 2250. If you want a horde, add what support you want first thenfill the rest up with skinks.

Its looking good so far though.

I saw your list before, together with a few other ones, and I like it, but I'd never play that myself as I don't like the riders (models and fluff wise -- They'd only be slowed down from the rat plague, and would insult Sotek even if the jungle intruders would've been leveled with the ground).

If I DO add saurus, then it'll be on a phat doggie, nothing else would do, really. (Unless I wanna play big battles and slann are imposible to play without TG... and fluff wise would this be more than ok!)

The only thing I would feel the urge to change in your list to make me play it is making the two krox units slightly bigger and fitting two in each. I just love the new models (and would have married one if they only were plastic!) and they look really cool when completely surrounded by skinks. And as said before, switching flue lizzies for krox (they just look amazing). I'll make a more detailed list later on today or so...

True, if only invested into anti-magic. Dispelling would be their MAIN assignment, but even if they go full out on that they would have 1 free spell and 5 PD, and they could boost up to 7 PD and -1 on casting levels. They are there mainly for defence, but also for the flexibility (and the pure awesomeness of the models!)

I noticed that some lines were left out as I was tired as hell and jumped a bit in the post while writing it. The thought was to maybe give tha BSB a cloak, the general a honed one and fitting my second priest on a tank too. +1 PD, +1 DD, and -1 casting and more shield if he'd sniper one steggie right away.

The army would likely be weak vs cavalry, so a magical toothpick on the general and board control units would be good. So if the list is slightly short, then more short lizziez. (c:

btw. I want to make my BSB from a blood dripping skaven hide because I really like the idea with the skavenpelt banner. I'd likely pick it and fit it in a skink/krox unit every now and then (casual) to make them immune to psychology and +6 touthpics and +2 headpicks. But not being able to fit any magical items to him makes the model very poor.

ANYHOW... with a BSB I could just as well have full command on the big skink units. I know not many ppl do this, and for good reasons, but it would LOOK cool, so I was just thinking whether this was really 100% unplayable or not. Having two smokers and maybe a ranked screen might make it useful still... I doubt that it'll be BETTER, but I'd likely play it as long as it wasn't that much worse. And the banners would likely feature the other remains from the sacrificed skavens and poles á la the bitz from the steggie... But as I've never played with em, would it be just handing over the banner and giving him the extra pts for it?

Yeah bnners on skink units is basically giving away free VP... I think it would be easier to add dead skaven in other ways, maybe give them bloodied handweapons or skaven-pelt cloaks? Actually charmeleon skinks with skaven skin cloaks would look very cool. If you did want the banners, I gues if you were winning with the list you wouldn't lose banners. It would make you either win big or lose big though, there would be no close games.

If you are looking at putting both priests on a steg each, then yeah keep them level 2 and keep both. heavens isn't that great, but you will be able to get +1 from one of the engines so should be able to cast all spells.

Skavenpelt banner is obviously not good fo an allround army, but it definitely fits your fluff so might as well keep it around. I wouldn't take a horned one... Very not worth it.

Really, there is a very blurry line between army effectiveness and theme/fluff. You need to decide how effective you want the list or how much fine tweaking you are willing to sacrifice for fluff. I love fluffy armies so I'm certainly not going to critisize the decision, especially if you want it mostly for friendly games.

I think that 80-90% of the games I'll play will be casual, so that I'll likely convert some banners (full command) just for the fun of it. It's more fun to convert than to paint anyhow, so it'll be well worth it. But I want a flexible army where I could make a few changes and I'd have a fairly good list tourney wise. Maybe not tier 1, but still not too shabby. So then these fluff things would go out and I'd spread some extra cheese on the list. So basically, I want a casual army that could easily be converted into a "good" list.

Btw. I haven't really seen ppl chopping off skinks their head fin, have any of you seen an army like that? I just really like that they look a lot more like lizards/snakes, and I'm sure Sotek would appreciate that. ;oP

I just realized one of the biggest setback with having krox in a unit. You can't really fit any cool unit fillers! )c:
Maybe I could sneak something in by taking advantage of the krox big base. Wouldn't be a real unit filler though... )c:

It was pretty much just the skirmishers that would benefit from the generals Ld, so I decided to go for a priest as a general... It would be cool to be able to fit 2 sallies in the list as well, but I don't know what I could kick out in order to do that... (maybe a priest, but that's kinda boring)

    Total: 2250 pts

    1 Skink Priest - lv2
    Ancient Stegadon
    Plaque of Tepok
    Bane Head
    Power Stone

    1 Skink Priest - lv2 (General)
    Ancient Stegadon
    Dispel Scroll
    Diadem of Power

    1 Skink Priest - lv 2
    2x Dispel Scroll

    1 Skink chief
    Battle Standard Bearer
    Cloak of Feathers
    Venom of the Firefly Frog
    Enchanted shield
    Light armour, Blowpipe

    Core:
    11 Skinks
    +1 Kroxigor

    11 Skinks
    +1 Kroxigor

    11 Skinks
    +1 Kroxigor

    13 Skink Skirmishers (blowpipes)

    13 Skink Skirmishers (blowpipes)

    Special:
    9 Chameleon Skinks

    4 Terradon Riders

    4 Terradon Riders

    4 Kroxigors

    What do you think???

oh, and had in mind to fit a little altar on one of the EotG's where the priest will sacrifice a skaven... the other one might just play a grey sears heart... ;oP

Heh, I am doing that conversion on my EotG except using a skink since I don't have any skaven models. It will look great if you do it, but I'm not sure you will cram an alter in unless you ditch the throne since space is quite tight.
