Re: Upcoming Tournament 2600pts Well, you've got plenty of troops so your choices are fairly unlimited. What army you take really depends on what your playstyle is and who your opponents are. Is it a big, open event or a group of friends with a known set of armies? Not really the point of these forums but put a list up and you'll get some feedback!
Re: Upcoming Tournament 2600pts List coming soon, I hope to get some nice feedback! And I play this with some friends! 1 army is Orcs&Goblins with hammer and anvil tactic
1. That is literally the worst Slann in existence. Ward saves and regeneration don't stack, it's one or the other. That discipline is pretty much useless now. He already has an innate 4+ ward, so unless I'm totally mistaken the talisman of preservation is a waste of points, too. You have a unit of temple guard, so the slann will have to join it. That diminishes the usefulness of the higher plane discipline. He also has no items or disciplines to help with his magic in any way, which means that he's essentially a 400 point vanilla level 4 wizard. 2. I would probably go with bigger units of saurus. In your current list the biggest rank bonus is +3, and you only get it on one unit, and it goes away if you take even a single casualty. You'll almost never be steadfast, and the large numbers of small units mean that you'll be giving up vp's like hotcakes. 3. Have you played with that many small units before? Do you play on big enough tables that there's room to steer them around and get them all into the fight? 4. What lore is your frog taking?
That's a pretty bad slann, I have to admit. As has been said, drop the regeneration and the ward save talisman, they're both superfluous. Replace them with Rumination (+1 dice per spell) or Cogitation (Enemy wizard loses 6s to cast spells). Your units are a too small, you'd be better off fielding two units of 30 rather than 4 of 15. Especially with spears. The Templeguard could do with at least four more models too. The skink priest is a little much, the extra level will be fairly wasted as most of your spells will be cast with the slann. The diadem too will likely go wasted as with such a powerful caster you'll want to use all your powerdice. You'd be far better off with a dispel scroll. 10 Cold one cavalry is a big points investment, they are not particularly highly rated but against the right opponents they can be brutal. Either way, I would rather field two units of 5 and use them as flankers to help out in key combats.
(375 pts) Slann Mage Priest w/ Focus of Mystery (Lore of Shadows) The Becalming Cogitation The Focused Rumination (90) Skink Priest w/ Dispel Scroll Skink Priest (128) Saurus Scar-Veteran w/ BSB, banner: Banner of Eternal Flame Light Armour Shield 3x (330) 25 Saurus Warriors Spears Full Command (207) 22 Skinks w/ Kroxigor Full Command (355) 20 Temple Guard w/ Full Command 2x 5 Cold One Cavalry Stegadon 3 Salamander Hunting Packs Army Total 3000 An update of the army list. I've given the bsb a banner of eternal flame, because the test battle versus a friend of mine. He always use 6 trolls and use then to tank my units, i want to use it to kill those trolls. Cheers, Zwuppie
make the slann your bsb, not the scar vet. bsb slann can have magic banner and magic items. scar vet cannot. plus, your slann's going to be hard to kill sitting in your TG, while your scar vet will be in the front line, waiting to get smacked
The reason why i don't choose for a Slann BSB is because some units will get out of range! The scar-vet will be the center of my army.
umm. center how? like by himself center or in a unit center? if the latter, id assume youd put him in the TG since they are tougher than saurus. if so, the slann has a bigger base for slightly bigger area of effect and with the rules of being allowed to measure distance whenever youd like, i highly doubt youll have an issue keeping your other blocks within 12". your call though
Needs Cupped Hands, the first miscast will obliterate your bodyguard otherwise. I'd drop 'Cogitation' to pay for it. Also, he's the most well-protected model in your entire army (5 wounds, 4+ ward, TG bunker), so I don't know why you wouldn't make him General and BSB. Ld9 re-roll aura is awesome. As a quick note for Lords, you can technically squeeze in an Old-Blood here as a bodyguard to the Slann. Piranha Blade and either Bane Head (mark enemy General and dare him to charge you) or Other Tricksters Shard (most people are taking ward saves on their combat heroes if they can) is a pretty good loadout. Meh. Heavens magic isn't anything special, so unless you're taking EOTG, not really worth taking multiples. I'd actually take Blood Stauette over dispel scroll if points are tight (take both if you can obviously). With the statue of sniping, you can potentially kill the enemy Lord mage (or General, if they were dumb enough to not give him a ward save or magic resistance) Turn 1 and give yourself a huge leg up for the rest of the game. Can also snipe the BSB (same deal, some people don't adequately protect theirs). Enjoy getting sniped early in the game. Death magic, Metal magic, sniper weapons, stone throwers, cannons, challenges....this is why most people run the BSB on the Slann. You don't even need to give up the magic banner, you can still take it and magic items on the frog. Scar-Vet has only got two wounds, and he'll always be in the front rank. I just see him getting assassinated way too easily. Scar-Veterans are good so long as you keep them cheap. I'd personally take a halberd or one of the cheaper magic weapons (ASF sword of either name, Burning Blade, Piranha Blade etc). If you do take halberd, you can drop the shield (he's not worth sniping and when you hit combat you can't use the shield). Eh, you don't have to spend that much on Core, so why bother? Also, Saurus champions are a waste of time when you can just throw a cheap Scar-Vet in there instead. You don't have an EOTG chewing up points in Heroes, so its perfectly feasible to fill out the front rank with halberd-wielding Scar-Vets. If you're going to do Skrox, you need to take three or more Kroxigor. The unit just too tiny otherwise. Again, unit champion is a bit of a waste of points, he'll rarely kill anyone else. Don't need unit Champion, add a cheap Scar-Vet instead. At least you're not overinvesting...but still, I'd take Camo Skinks over these guys if its warmachine hunting you wanna do. Could just re-invest this in Heroes as an EOTG instead...but he's not bad. Awesome. Not a bad list overall, you might wanna do some tweaking here and there, but it should do fine.
