So here is my Updated list: Slann (BSB, General) -Channeling staff -Becalming Cogitation -Focus of Mystery -Harmonic Convergence -Soul of Stone Scar Vet -cold one -Glittering Scales -Dawnstone -Shield -GW Core Saurus Warriors x 40 -Horde -HW/Shield -Full command Skink Skirmishers x10 -patrol leader Skink Skirmishers x10 -patrol leader Special Temple Guard x 26 Champ, Standard -Banner of swiftness Bastiladon -Ark of Sotek Jungle Swarm x3 Chameleon Skinks x6 Ancient Stegadon -EOTG -Sharpened Horns Option: Troglodon with channeling staff OR 4 Krox -Total 2500 pts I assume most will side with going with the 4 krox, and honestly I am as well, but I still want to hear what you all have to say. How is the list in general? Competitive? Is it to hero light? Also instead of High magic I am thinking lore of life would be better suited to this list to heal the steg/saurus units who will be in the thick of things, if all goes to plan. So, questions, comments? Huge mistake waiting to happen? Thanks
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) Hmm.. Just off of head - the slann have a value of 500+ pts. I dunno, but that's a lot for just one character. My opinion? Ditch the Skaven banner and becalming cogitation. That's 90pts. Unless you want the slann upfront in the saurus unit he'll go in your tbh weak TG unit. Six wide means 6 more attacks, you seriously want tto pay 65pts for that? Now, ditch the trog lol. I mean 200pts to channel, shoot magic through and one roar? You seriously have to consider if that'll help you as much as say 4 kroxigors hitting with 12 S7 attacks + stomps. I just think its a lot of points spend on magic, which is unstable as hell. What if you roll snake eyes and make no channel? But then again the trog is what makes your army different, so thats up to you. Personally I'd never leave home with an oldblood and a scroll priest.
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) I have tried krox in the past and just cant use them effectively. i am sure that has more to do with me as a general than the actual unit. I could drop the Trog and beef up the temple guard unit. You are right about the skaven pelt banner, only 6 extra attacks is pretty lame, I think that will be dropped. Which frees up 60 more points for.....? Skink chief on a ripper with egg? As far as the Trog goes, I bought the darn thing so I have to give it a fighting chance to be used more than once. And the first time I used him I didn't do it properly. So consider this list "the Trog's last dance." If it fails terrible again then Ill condemn him to the caves of Lustria.
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) You answered my Trog list, I'll answer yours. I'm not a fan of Ark of Sotek with this list. The jungle swarm tax could be used to bulk up the temple guard or add a mundane scar-vet. You could considering dropping the bastiladon and taking another stegadon. I also think saying the Troglodon is only good for roar and channel is misleading. It is still M7 with s5 thunderstomps. It can clear skirmishers or run down fleeing units to win their points for what is otherwise a slow list. Its basically a regadon that swaps T6 and impact hits for m7, gimmicks, and poison. The ranged attack of the troglodon is basically a quick firing giant bow.
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) Everyone is in love with the solar engine, understandably so, however in every game i have used the Ark of Sotek basti it has performed wonderfully. Covers a flank, can add points to my list with jungle swarms, doesn't take away casting dice to use, and can shoot poison attacks into cc all the while it maneuvers to get a rear charge. The other basti is great....if it works. I seemingly roll 1's or 2's whenever i'm rolling on a table so for me, its just to unreliable, especially in a list with a 200 pt Trog.
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) To make the Troglodon work I'd drop the Arkdon and the Swarms to buy more Sauri. Make the roar REALLY count.
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) They just auto wound ... like poison ... would, hmmm. (slightly different mechanic)
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) My bad, I think I assumed they were poisoned. But as it was mentioned you roll 2d6 hits, so I get that many rolls to wound. Granted rolling on a s2 means I wont get many wounds depending on the target, but hey...Ill take any opportunity to add wounds to multiple units even if they are in cc.
Re: 2500pt Troglodon list (yeah I said it) Just to clarify with the Skaven banner you gain 7 attacks not 6 (taking into account predatory fighter statistics) jumping you maximum attacks (with slann) from 19 to 26 ws4 s5 attacks. Worth the pts for the banner imho. That being said I'd still find the pts to beef up the temple guard. 20 seems a bit small for a 2.5k.
I'd go Lore of Life if you choose the 4 Kroxigor since Kroxigor are something that likes Lifebloom a lot and benefit from Regrowth more than most things. I'd go High Magic if you take the Troglodon since you'll have no shortage of things to channel with him given that you are likely to swap out High Magic spells for signatures. Also with 8 spells instead of 4, the extra channeling is more likely to be useful. On the other hand Slann magic missiles will fight with the Bastiladon for power dice now that you dropped the Ark of Sotek. The Beam of Chotec is better than most basic damage spells relative to it's easy casting cost. Either way the list seems solid but I'd go with the Troglodon. As much as people malign the Troglodon, I'm not sure your Kroxigor will be necessary. The Ancient Stegadon and Saurus Cowboy fill pretty much the same niche. Then again Life seems like a good pairing with your EOTG factored in because it's easier to get the benefit of the lower casting.
Great points, however I do still have the Ark of Sotek basti in my list. He hasn't failed me yet so I'm sticking with him! Hes a flank protector, can add swarms (anytime I can legally go above the agreed pt list, I'll take it) and he's great at adding attacks into the knock down drag out combats my saurus will be in.
