Slann got punched in the face. Hard ! lol Saw it coming unfortunate by product slann 310 now unplayable in coalesced in my opinion. Stegadon might be seeing some more play with their price drop. And EotG WTF? like really gw didn't see a problem there?
The Lord of celestial resonance is what really kills the slann. He just does not do enough and make enough CP for his cost. I think we will be seeing starborn without the slann. Troglodon may fill that gap. Or just more suarus guard. The drop in our flying units still doesn't make me want to take them.
Looks like starborne got a pretty big hit to there usual lists and koatls claw relatively unchanged since I think most lists have a carno and at least one of the things that went up in points. Thunder lizard is unfortunately poorly thought out and the all monster list is still unlikely since you're losing out on a lot of rampages even more because of the thunder lizard subtraction rule. Might see some stegadons cropping up in koatls tho with the damage reduction they're fairly comparable to zombie dragons now which I don't think we're doing so bad as far as heroless monsters go. Might be cool to see what people do with dactyls now they have really cool models and there on my list to buy just for that reason but they've been pretty hard to want to use for a while now.
If anyone is wondering: source. On other news a lot of units got cheaper by 10 or 20 and Kroxis now are 5W apiece.
Well, it's undeniable that Starborne took a huge hit, lots of nerfs. I guess we'll see in the coming months what that does to competitive lists. However, myself as a Koatl's Claw enjoyer, I was not entirely happy to have my list go up by 30 points for my Astrolith and Starseer. The +20 points for the Astrolith is seriously making me consider swapping it out for a Scar Vet on Aggradon, as they're the same price and that 6+ ward is now looking awfully expensive. As much as I enjoy the new Kroxigors, unfortunately even with the +1 wound I don't think they compare to the Aggradons as powerful hammer units. Overall, I feel the Starborne nerfs were likely justified, but unfortunately I think that Coalesced still didn't get the buffs that they could have used (especially Thunder Lizards). I think we'll simply have to wait until AoS4 for the next big changes.
Agreed. Yes. The nerf to Celestial Resonance and a points increase REALLY hurts the Slann. It confuses and frustrates me why GW felt the need to do both (and increase most of our other Starborne heroes). But, respectfully, I think a Starborne list without a Slann and/or Kroak is a bit of a non-starter. Although CPP generation is diminished, it's not gone. A Slann still has more casts than any of the skink casters, a built-in +1 to cast, a built-in spell to help other casters, command point generation, and Kroak still puts out more damage while leaning into the Starborne features. Plus, Starborne lose the teleport shenanigans without a Slann, which is the other big aspect of their playstyle. I think Master of Magic or Shaman of the Chilled Lands could see more play as a command trait, though. I expected the Astrolith to go up b/c it's the secret linchpin to a Starborne army. Kroak doesn't surprise me b/c of his potential casting and people often complain about it. That said, I've been shut down plenty by other casting armies.
I will say, just for the heck of it, I tried a Thunder Lizard army composed of: 1 Oldblood Carno (general) 1 Oldblood Carno 1 Scar-vet Carno 6 x Stegadons 1 Hunters of Huanchi (bolas). I played against my buddy's Soulblight Gravelords. Now, he wasn't running his most hammer units, but it was still a tough battle which came down to the final round. I won by 1 point thanks to a silly luck roll. He had taken the tactic Magical Mayhem (kill a unit with magic). I unbound his Vile Transference with Heroic Willpower and he failed Blizzard (we had no bonus dice). He did cast Arcane Bolt with his on-foot Vampire Lord and was holding it to blast my very hurt Stegadon after combat. However, I had a Carno within 3" of the Vampire Lord. So, just for fun, I attempted the Carno's "eat a model" monstrous action and rolled a "6!" The Vampire Lord only has 5 Wounds. Chomp! Goodbye Vampire Lord and goodbye Arcane Bolt. Thunder Lizard makes it fun to field all monsters, but it's normally not practical. I know the Stegadon and Carnos are pretty cheap now, but it's easy to whiff with them (at least for me). When our monsters do whiff their combat phase you REALLY feel it. I think the Stegadon's bonus monstrous action should be changed to something you can do every round, not just on a charge. I wish that one of our Carnos had a 3+ save. But, we do have Bastiladons with 2+ saves, so I can't complain too much.
I think if they changed thunder lizard to something like all monsters can stomp in addition to another rampage it would be a lot more appealing, it's cool to hear about people having some success with it tho.
That's an interesting idea. It was kind of a "for fun" game and I just tried it because the units are that cheap. But it had some legs and the dinos pulled it off in the end... no thanks to my terrible dice rolling.
Have you seen that the Kroxigor and Warspawned also went to 5+ Save in the AoS app?? Is that a mistake b/c I didn't see anything about that in the Battlescroll.
The app isn't an official source for rules, if it wasn't mentioned in the official battlescroll than it's just a mistake. Another mention to head over to the discord if you want more frequent/regular seraphon chatting. DM me if you want a link.
That's a good point. I just assumed it was b/c it does have the majority of the rules. Thanks for clarifying.
Yeah, the app is great but theres plenty of little wonky things like this. I'm sure everyone can remember when kroxigor in the last book just had an eye symbol for # of attacks with one of their profiles lol.
My understanding was that the eotg bonus effects were arguably worse then the range weapon you're giving up to have it not to mention that it's more expensive then a stegadon with a bow or flamethrower. I've never personally used an eotg tho so maybe I'm mistaken in that, I can say w. The last point drop the regular stegadons worked pretty well for me and they got dropped even further this time so there could be something there.
It's a cool piece but my biggest gripe is that it doesn't have the Skink cohort ability. I think if it had that then it would be considered.
