Hello there. I'm very new to Warhammer and working on my Lizardmen army and I want to use the older Slann model (the one where he is carried) instead of the newer one. I have the model, so that's not a problem. What I do have an issue with, is how to I get him to rank up? From what I can tell, he is bigger (base wise) than the newer guy. If I wanted him to attach to a unit of temple guard, will this be a problem, or am I imagining an issue where none exists? Thanks!
You should be fine. The primary problem is the base size. I do not know if the tempel guard carrying the paliquin will rank up with the other temple guard, but it should work. Give it a try and see. You may have to put the old temple guard in the front rank so that ths slann is in the correct location. Most people you paly against should not have a problem with it.
google warhammer unit filler. If you can't find a way for him to fit, make a diorama for him and it'll be legit.
The old Slann with the Temple Guard carrying him will rank up/fit on the appropriate base. I have, and use, this model quite often in my TG unit....and he has never broken (failed LD test) in the 15 years I have been using him. It is not difficult to have the model fit the correct base. May your Slann be as steadfast as mine!!
The old slann came with two slotta cavalry bases and if you were careful you could get them to line up next to each other covering 50x50, like the new model. However, as the carriers are very similar to the old metal TG (as they are actually TG themselves you would expect them to be similar!) I removed them from the palanquin and using spare plastic arms, converted them to standard TG and the slann to a floaty version.
