Hello. I will be having a game against vampire counts on the weekend. I am here asking what i should do, use (ie: lores, units etc)? I have got use Engine of the gods due to the undead killing power, lore of light, hard hitters to break them easily (like a skink chief on an ancient steg with the war spear.) I stratigised that much by myself, but i have no gaming experience, so can someone give me some personal tips? I'll have a list up soon, it'll probably go along the link of this one http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/noobs-first-game-list-2000-points.1721/ (just talored to be more vamp-killing.) The other major difference is that it'll be a 2500 battle. Thanks. KFTW
I fixed your link tag. If you put a space between the url and the [/URL] part then it doesn't work. Lore of light does do more damage to undead, but I think you should use whatever lore you are most comfortable with. Though from the looks of that sample list, there is no Slann so you won't get to choose a lore anyway.. Priests always use heavens. Stopping the undead magic is the most important thing you can do. The VC just have sooo much raising power it is crazy, you will often find yourself in a position where you have cut a unit down to just one or two models then their magic phase happens and all of a sudden they have a full unit again and you are screwed. So keep your magic defence up and ignore spells that aren't going to do very much to you, like healing a unit that has only lost 2-3 models, and focus on stopping important ones like vanhels dance (can get his units into combat) or raising on severely weakened units. The general is obviously the key and also the hardest to kill. I wouldn't worry about trying to go toe to toe with the vampire, because even a maxed out old blood may struggle. Plus he will probably be in a tough grave guard unit. This is the unit that will net you the most victory points and win you the game if you can destroy it. If you hit the front with a big unit of saurus (or TG if you bought a Slann), get the engine nearby to throw out burning alignment in the magic phase, and have a steg (maybe even the engine if the other one is busy elsewhere) or cold ones ready to charge into the flank you should be able to bring it down. You need to be able to kill at least half the unit in one turn, maybe a bit less if you have a flank charge as well, to make them all crumble. Crumbling is how you kill the general, then the rest should fall into place. If you don't get the whole unit, he will heal them all back again so keep up the pressure on them.
Thanks for the detailed reply. I just wrote a list up specifically for killing the VC menace so that'll be in army lists very soon. That other list was just a vauge gide, but i did in the ned, decide that magic was the way to go and that i didn't need a skirmisher screen (finally Lizzies will have the best guns on the board). And thanks for fixing the link. The list is here (provided the link works.) http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/2500-for-killing-vamp-very-not-sure-about-this.1895/
