We've just began a campaign (starting at 500pts and moving up) where named characters are not allowed. Not only that, but Rare choices had not been permitted until we hit 1250pts. This was particular disappointing for me as I had Salamanders in my plans and Tetto'eko would have been very useful in some of these games.

What do you think of named characters not being allowed in such scenarios? Seems a shame to me: I know they're not for everyone, but they can make for some really fun themed lists.

in the rule i don't realy like them becaus somethimes they are way to strong. but i like to some thematical lists. like a list with chacax or thenhanuin. but taking charaters like kroak or Tetto'eko becaus they are good is not what i like in warhammer. tornooi scene is something els, but i don't play competitve so my look may be a lot difrent then others.

GW made a big mess of named characters....some are horribly overpowered, but most are horribly underpowered (or overpriced).

And i dont like excluding a few, so for me it would be all or nothing...and certainly in campaigns I would say nothing.
Campaigns are excellent oppertunities to create your own "named" characters and if you have a cool dude running the campaign he could hand out unique abilities or items when your character deserves them.

It's your game and you can do whatever you want. Personally I don't see the big fuss about named characters. They're a part of the book similar to banner of the nub, demon princes, white lions and other ridiculously overpowered things.

Why should you not be allowed to take on item while others have access to things they might want?

Again, it's your campaign and generally speaking there isn't a warhammer fantasy police so you can do whatever you want, however, I'm always baffled as to why people would exclude stuff for the sake of "balance".

Only thing I'd make my opponent aware about was that if I decided to use one of the new 1000pts mega lords because they singled handedly can lay waste to an entire army.

    +1

My first reaction to someone sayng "no special characters" is "Cool, so I get to ban stuff I don't like as well?".

If you ask me would you mind to don't play a certain combination I probably would not play that combo.
If you ask me can i play a special charater for once. I don't have a problem with it. if i know it, so i can make my list a little bit harder. but i like to know it. and the most people i play against thinks the same. but if the two of you agree to play with specials charters, why not.
