Greetings all. I am recently getting back into Warhammer after a long hiatus (last played in whatever box set was Lizardmen vs Brettonians) and have joined a Warbands league. After reading through the mini rulebook I have the basics of the game down, or at least will after a couple of games I guess. However Ive been playing 40k since the 90s, so it shouldnt be too hard.

Anyway, the Warband league Ive joined is starting at 250pts and building up from there as the league continues on. I was thinking of doing a few units of skinks, with javelins and shields and maybe a skink chief or mage to run around, picking on opponents units from the edges, and trying to avoid close combat all together but wasnt sure if this would be a valid tactic.

Anyone else out there play warbands with a force this small, or wouldnt mind offering suggestions about what I should try?

I have about 50 skinks (with bows, but we arent wysiwyg) 16 spear and shield saurus warriors and maybe 30ish HW and Shield Saurus Warriors. 16 Tomb Guard a couple terradons, and a salamander.

    Thanks :)

    Welcome aboard!

That is an atypical points size for most games. However, if you want to run it, it is pretty easy. At the 250 points level, you should do fairly well with skirmishers. I would go with blowpipes though. If you are going to be staying to the sides and picking them off, that is the way to go.

I usually run with javelins and shields because that matches my game strategy. I like have a the 6+ save if they happen to get into combat (misjudged charge range).

I would suggest a unit of suarus as well. If you must have a leader, I would try to fit in a scar-vet. I would not worry too much about magic until you get to about 1000 points.

    Hope this helps.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for the suggestions, man 250pts IS difficult to build with hehe. As soon as I buy a unit, my points take a significant hit.

What do you think about 2 units of Skink Skirmishers with a Skink Chief thrown in? I thought about a Skar Vet but think he would just slow my units down and eat up too many points.

Cant wait til this league escalates to 500pts :)

You could take two unis of 12 skirmishers. Then a skink chief with blowpipe, shield, and light armor. Take venom
Of the firefly frog and the luckstone.
That comes in at 250 on the nose.

Cool deal. I had come up with:

    Peeko (Chief)
    Blowpipe, L Armor, Shield

    10 Skirmisher Skinks w/ Brave
    Blowpipes

    5 Skirmisher Skinks w/ Brave
    Blow Pipes

    5 Chameleon Skinks w/ Brave
    Blow Pipes

but yours sounds good too :)
    thanks again

They may have house ruled the unit numbers, but you cannot take a unit of 5 skirmishers (unless they did). I also goofed with the items. Those items I listed would bring in the chief at 80+ points. With the percentage rules, you will only be allowed 62.5 points for the chief.

You could go with something like this as well:

Skink chief, light armor, shield (no shooting, it puts him over the percentage)

    10 skirmishers blowpipe

    10 chameleons

Again, your shop may be house ruling the percentages, so this may not apply.

ah yes sorry, they came up with a 4model minimum on the small based stuff I believe to accomodate the small size of the battles. It is basically a refresher to get people back into playing and will ramp up for the next "round."

Cool, you should be good, then. If you could fit in a single Kroxigor, you would ruin everyone's day though.

I know that it would be tough to do so, but it would be fun.
