Anyone pick up space marine for the PC today? Ive got it downloading off steam. If anyone wants to add me as a friend for some co-op send me a PM and Ill get you my steam name.
Its not released until tomorrow here.... But I have had the Collector's Edition on preorder for a fair while, so after my pracs tomorrow morning I'll go and pick it up! Release date happens to coincide with my payday as well, which is handy.
got mine ordered for X360, can't wait until release date tomorrow! Pre-ordered the Emperors Ed. from JB HiFi which comes with the Dark Angels and Space Wolves DLC incl. so hopefully I won't have to play through the game with those god-awful Ultrasmurfs. Played the demo a few times - makes me want to start an Ork army! (like i can afford to!)
Played some last night. Its pretty fun. Lots of blood and gore. I'm in the middle of act 2 and the story is good so far. Its about what you expect from a space marine game. Played some multiplayer last night and its fun as well. You level up similarly to call of duty, but it also has some challenges that you complete to unlock pieces of armor, weapons, and skills. The maps are also fairly balanced per class as well. Theres one map that is small and heavily favors jump packs, another that is huge and wide open that favors sniping/devastators, and a couple that are big but tight that are pretty even across the board. So far I would give it a solid 7 out of 10 with a chance for improvement as I play more than a couple hours.
Thats pretty good! I am expecting fairly low quality, the value will be in being immersed in the cool 40k universe. Firewarrior was certainly a fail as a FPS, but as a warhammer fan it was a great game. The trailers have certainly looked good. I look forward to playing it!
Every time I see a commercial for it, all I can think is that they're stuck in '05 with the original Dawn of War (the graphics just scream that to me).
The graphics are closer to DoW2 when you zoom way in on the units, so they are a little dated. Honestly though, as you play through I don't even really notice it and it allows for more orks to be on the screen at once for me to smash my way through with my power axe I did a spot last night where I fought something like 50 orks. Not sure my PC would have liked that if the graphics were too much better.
I got my Collector's Edition. Must say, very impressive! Best Collector's Game I've had in a while. It folded open like a book with gold leaf, great artwork all over the outside, a very nice full size purity seal, a hardcover artwork book, soundtrack cd, and deck of cards. I think this is the best value I have ever had from a GW related product! The game is as expected; button mashing fury. Graphics are decent enough, lots of quotes thrown in bit over the top, bog-standard story, but its lots of fun so far and cool to be imersed in the 40k universe.
You can blame outdated graphics on consoles, mostly the 360. Compared to a decent PC its terrible. Having the game cross platform means they are forced to make the game for the lowest system possible. That being said, I/m loving the single player although I am disappointed in how short it is. I've almost completed the game and its only been 6hrs played (with a few games of multilayer in there too). The multiplayer really needs dedicated servers otherwise half the matches you join are unplayable lag-fests. I like the game, I don't regret buying it, I just hope they patch in some fixes for multiplayer.
Nothing wrong with the graphics on my 360 IMO - looks bloody great to me. On a side note: I wonder how much sales on Space Marines, Chaos and Orks have spiked since the games release?
