    Hi everyone,

Been a while since I last came here.
I am starting a warhammer campaign and on my turn 1, I am fighting High Elf.

He can pretty much field anything and is a veteran.

I'll rank myself as a green leaf!

After much reading on this forum, I believe I'll go with this list:

Scar Veteran (CO, GW, Shield, Armor Destiny)
Skink Priest (lvl 1, Dispel Scroll)

    20xSaurus (Spear, Shield, FC)
    10xSkinks (Javelin,shield)
    Bastiladon (Ark of Sotek)
    2x Jungle Swarm
    Ancient Stegadon

I am expecting some Sister of Avalon and is special cavalry.

Thanks for any advice on either tactic to adopt or modification to list.

I personally think an Ancient Steg is not worth it at such a low limit. Your probbly better off saving the points, bulking up the Saurus a bit, maybe upgrade the Scar Vet to an Oldblood, and definitely upgrade the Priest to Lvl 2 as hes your only caster.

Never tried the Ark of Sotek, at 1000pts especially the Solar Engine can put out some huge damage.

I'd also recommend at least one Salamander. He should fry up some of those yummy low armour blocks.

Well I downgraded to regular Stegadon, got rid of 2 swarms, I went with a salamandar and upgraded skink priest to level 2.

And changed Arc of Sotek by the Solar Beam...

I ended up losing per 140 points.

Magic was a catastrophe round after round, the dice were not with me on this one. I managed to cast only one spell and fire the Chotec Beam once (with a 2 on it's power) otherwise for 6 turn, nothing else passed...it was just ugly...He only had a mage level 2 with a channeling staff in front,

Definitely second the salamander suggestion, at 1000pts there will probably be quite a few reasonable sized blocks of basic infantry about and salamanders can make a real mess of them.

Also possibly some terradons or rippers would be useful for flanking/warmachine duty.

Really sorry to hear that mate. :(

With this set up in magic I normally use Beasts on the Priest and always take Wyssans. Any other spell is an added bonus, so choose which you prefer out of the ones you roll. In the first few rounds (esp. vs Elves) it's vital you get Wyssans off. I normally throw 2-4 dice at it (depending on winds of magic roll) to make sure I get it off and then spam the rest of the dice on the beam. If you get IF and hence miscast, pffft it's an innate bound spell, don't worry about it! The extra spell free on the Priest will help to throw your opponent when he tries to dispel Wyssans as they have to bear in mind they may need to dispel again.

    To summarise the magic element:

    1) When rolling for spells choose your favourite out of the two you roll and switch out the other for Wyssans.
    2) Make Wyssans the first spell you attempt to cast each turn. Be sure you get this one off.
    3) Use your second spell on the Priest as a feint to dissuade any excessive dispelling by your opponent on Wyssans. Use it some turns and then not the next just to throw them off guard. When casting look as though you're making a though decision on what spells to cast for added effect!
    4) Use 6 (or the rest) on Beam of Chotek in an attempt to get IF.

Hope this helps on the magic phase part. (Although, please note that the tactic may only valid in this specific list. In any list with a Slann, or with more than one Priest you may need to do something different.)

on 6 magic phase I managed to roll
    2 x2
    1 x3
    1 x4 (double 2)
    1 x6 (2 and 4)
    1 x8 (double 4)

    way below average roll.

I took Wyssans and Amber spear, I dropped Pann Inpenetrable pelt.

I was always throwing Wyssans first, I was only able to cast it once. I managed to fail to cast it once with 3 dice.

Salamandar was on my right flank with skinks.

Stegadon, Bastiladon and Cowboy was on the left.

Saurus in the middle with priest.

He threw 2 giant eagles at my Salamandar, his core cavalry at my bastiladon, his archer were firing on my saurus block and Spearman block sat in the rear most of the game.

I did take out an eagle and injured the other one but he took out my salamandar, my Steg took care of the Cavalry, my skink almost wiped out his archer.

My Bastiladon resisted to the knight charge but otherwise was useless, the only time the beam of chotec fired, I got a 2 and didn't kill a thing.

My saurus block was supposed to be the anvil and my steg was to be the hammer but the HE never went for it and my unit got wiped on turn 6 by spells and arrows.
