My friend has just purchased a 2000 point Warriors of Chaos and we are going to start battling soon, so I took a look through his rule book. His core troops look rather powerful for such few points, and his truly destructive magic has made me a bit worried. The only weakness I noticed was a lack of ranged firepower. What would be the best way to counter a mainly CC chaos army with a few mages in it? I know he has at least 2 units of marauders, 2 chaos knight units, and a mage of some sort, but beyond that I'm not really sure. Also, he has acquired a very cool looking hellcannon, however I couldn't find it in his book. Can anyone fill me in on this awesome machine?
field lots of skinks shoot and run circles around him literally, magic heavy chubby usually works well for me also, saurus usually cant stand without a character and sometimes even then gets worked mabye use some dogs of war till new codex comes out
I use DoW alot so if you have a few Ogres try a squad of Lead Belchers I am usually against the Saurus Calvary but when facing a CC oriented army Saurus Calvary do to its punch. FSOD to kill HellCannon put on Sword Of Might and try for 2 Saurus Captains 2 Great Weapons
Due to the fact they're definately not a shooty army, I'd suggest Salamanders and lots of skinks to tear him apart before he hits a wall of Kroxigors or whatever you decide to take, give him the advanatage. Watch out for those Knights!
Hi! To make this quick: Lore of metal. Great against high armour saves, and you surely be facing those. He doesn't shoot, so you better shoot for him . Get a decent magical defence. The lores of chaos are NASTY! Be REALLY careful with knights, they're godlike (and the models too ). If he uses a hellcannon, be very careful with what you send against it; it's not just a monster in the rulebook, it can be a real beast in close combat. You'll probably outnumber him. Make use of that. If you don't outnumber him, that's because he took a list mainly consisting of marauders/hounds. Show him the error of is ways . Hope this helps! Cheers!
Ok thanks for the help everyone. My first battle will be a 1000 point against him tomorrow, so no slann, but does anyone know which sacred host allows skinks to take lore of metal? Also he has some marauder horsemen that seem like they could pose trouble for skinks, as they have 7 M and can be upgraded to throw axes.
skinks (priests) can only take lore of heavens spells. use a slann to get the nice lore of metal spells.
The sacred host of Tzalcotl allows your priests to take lore of metal (and makes saurus units & characters immune to psych). As for marauder horseman, they move 8, not 7, so you have to be very carefull with those. A usual build are 5 with musician, flails (+2 S on 1st round of combat ), so they can tear thru your skinks with ease (goddam fast cav ). Cheers!
Tlazcotl(if I remember correctly) gives you metal lore for your priest Don't worry to much of his Hellcannon. It is a beast, true, but is not worth going after, as it is really unpredictable. What you should worry about is the Knights(as comments before me) They really is a pain in the ass. And with only 1000 pts, you would love to have a lot of skinks as they can outmanouver him pretty well. Also Consider a unit of Terradons for March blocking. NEVER go in CC with Chaos Warriors with two handweapons. They just kill you. Period. And finaly, don|t have to much trust in one unit of kroxigors. They're strong and can easyly ruin a chariot, but ther aren't that tough.. and in close combat, that IS a problem against Chaos. If you can field a pound or some kind of water terrain, that would help alot. Fast cavalry is a easypick for skinks, and you might as well take out small block of warriors with thouse lovely poison hitters. Personally I always field a Steggi vs Chaos. I know many will disagree with me, but I find that Giant bow Prizeless. Specially in small matches. And when they get to close, a stegadon is tough enough to stand a few rounds(but not Warriors, keep away from them!) Other than that I can only whis you good luck
Heh, not so worried about the hellcannon anymore, after a skink preist got off a lucky pit of shades, and with its initiative of one, the hellcannon quickly became a unit of three chaos dwarves However, my saurus and 2 units of skinks got massacred in close combat with his warriors, so it was only my kroxigars that managed to win the day by killing his marauders. Luckily, he did not use knights in this battle.
Get lots of skinks to shoot him from afar. Terradons may work well with their hit and run tactic. Chrge them into combats where you know they won't win, and the enemy can't pursue when the Terradons leave combat and they can go back again on your next turn for more attacks. This can be used to great advantage if you wish to take out an enemy wizard, the hellcannon, and some marauders. Pick at them round after round until they are all dead. Also, if you are worried about knights, take some kroxigors and an old one saurus captain and charge them. I saw a guy at my local hobby store kill 5 out of 6 knights on the charge with only 3 kroxigors and an old one saurus captain. Salamanders are also good for long range. Try some chameleon skinks for there ballistic skill of 4 which helps them Poison even hard-to hit foes and their ability to blend in with their surroundings means that they can be deployed very near the enemy. Use this to your advantage to take out some marauders or warriors. Good Luck, Chosen of Sotek EDIT: Did not see that you had won, next time I will read the thread completely before posting.
No problem, more advice is always good. However, I don't think terradons will work well against his warriors. He likes to make them dual weild, and gives them the frenzy banner, giving them 4 attacks each. These don't seem like good odds for terradons.
You're absolutely right. Stay away from those warriors. They just whan't listen when you try talk reason with'em.. Skinks are awsome when fighting WoC. infact, they can take out anything but a unit of knights... For that you'll need something a bit more heavy. I don't think you shold drop out your Terrys though. just don't thorw them away in a fight with some of the best infantery in the game..
