Thought I could start a discussion about deathstar units. I have a friend who collects Dark Elves and he has a bad habbit making deathstar units. He is actually pretty good at it and I havn't won any game VS a deathstar unit. So now it's time for payback! This is my deathstar unit/army for 2250p. Don't know how it would go if I played with it, but it's fun to experiment Slann focus of mystery, focused rumination,becalming cognitation, unfathomble presence cupped hands, bane head, power stone, power stone Bsb, Sun standard Skin priest EotG, dispel scroll x2, extra level Scar vet light armour, enchanted shield, sword of the hornet Scar vet cold one armour, two hand weapons 18 temple guards full command, warbanner 12 saurus 12 saurus 10 skinks 3 terradons 2 salamanders 1 extra handler (got 5 spare points left) 2250 p! Scar vets go in the temple guards unit (doh) and the Engine stays close to the Temple guards to give them protection. *The unit know have magic resistence (3) *5+ ward save against missiles, *-1 too hit them with missiles 12' avay (-2 inside 12'), *Every turn one enemy wizard within 24' discards there 6s on there power dice rolls, * Three ranks, standard, bsb, warbanner = 6 combat res. *Immune to psychology, stubborn with leadership 9 * It the Temple guards gets charged, the scar vet with hornet sword will attack first with 4 attacks, hopefully killing 1-2 enemys. *Toughnes 6 on a scar vet is bad ass! his stupidity should not be a problem with Ld 9. And he has 5 attacks. *The temple guards can choose str 4 with 2+ armor save, or str 5 with 4+ save, pretty usefull! *In the magic face you have 9 power dice + free dice + 2 power stones * to counter magic you have 6 dispel dice + 2 dispel scrolls The rest of the army is there to march block and guarding the flanks. This will hopefullt give you two or three turns of heavy magic offense. What do you think? Post your own Deathstar unit/army here! Sorry about the english, i'm from sweden, we don't have schools here
lol How about making the Slann use Lore of Beasts so you can cast Bears Anger on the Coldone Hide Scar Vet? go go T7 and 7 strength 7 attacks! Plus getting a charge off with the Engine of the Gods in the magic phase with Wolf Hunts and being able to auto rally your support units with Oxen Stands... I've never played with that big of a basket, but Id maybe suggest looking at more redirecting and harrassment troops to support it, you want to force your enemy into fighting those characters!
That scar vet sound really nasty! Good tips, maybe skink cohorts and less saurus. Normal skinks are golden too, my opponents have learned to fear them^^ This is just for fun, cause I didn't think that Lizardmen could have deathstar units that could compare to Dark elves units. But maybe I'm on to something here...
What deathstars does the DE player run? Shade deathstar is the nastiest (MR, hotec, ASF with an assassin and with over 60 shots a round obliterates units in one, never mind stand and shoot then ASF). ASF BG with an assassin and other things is pretty mean too. Exec deathstar is funny as to have a hero in there (other than the assassin) you need them to be frenzied death hags, which allows for easy baiting.
You may want to swap the sun standard for the jaguar standard to give you 3D6 pursuits. Presumably this unit will be winning combats... that's what I'm running when my deathstar is constructed.
Thats the one! And he also likes to run a Corsair unit with crazy stuff. Magic resistence, hard characters and with the help from cauldron of blood and other things he can get 3-4 attacks per corsair! And damn those assasins... Thanks! That's a good point, it's really annoying to roll to short when you finaly got the enemy to flee. -1 to hit is nice, but not a game breaker...
One amusing thing is to shoot a deathstar with salamanders every round. If they panic that's a massive blow to them. Also remember steg impact hits come before ASF.
