Does anyone know when the Necrons are slated to receive their update? I've heard they are in the works, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything definitive?
That would be pretty sweet as long as they don't axe the C'tan (which one rumor I read eluded to... but at this stage I don't think any rumors are very concrete).
Still no sign of the Necrons. Last I heard they got pushed back further (but no clue as to when that might be)
the three top rumoured dexes coming out are; Tau, Sisters of Battle/Ecclesiarchy and Necrons. Most people seem to be thinking that a mid/late summer release of either Tau or Necrons followed by October/November SoB, and Jan/Feb of 2012 to be the remaining one.
Thanks for the reply. A summer release would be cool... I just hope Necrons don't lose out to Tau and have to wait until 2012
Necrons are more likely to be first, they need it a whole lot more than Tau. But I wouldn't hold my breath too much on keeping the C'Tan. They're just too expensive and powerful. Not necessarily a bad thing, but generally noone has fun when there's some big obscenely powerful thing on the table. It's like facing Teclis in Fantasy, you pretty much give up the magic phase to him. You win with him because you're a fucking munchkin, not because you have a good army, or clever tactics. I remember an Apocalypse megabattle at my local store, from the end of Febuary, one end was held down by a Necron army, with a C'Tan, it took pretty much everything the Space Wolf player could throw at it to take it down. And once he did, the Necrons were slaughtered in short order, with the help of a fresh wave of reinforcements.
I just love the fluff of the C'tan. I think they add a whole lot of character to the army. Plus the C'tan are my favorite models in the the Necron army. At the moment there are a whole bunch of things that can take a C'tan down. Sure they are very powerful, but they are also quite costly. It's just fun having the option to drop a god on the table. From what I have been reading though, most experienced players don't field a C'tan because they are not worth their points cost. I might be completely alone on this, but I was hoping they would introduce the Outsider or the Void Dragon in the new codex as opposed to getting rid of the C'tan all together. Not sure how others feel on the topic though.
Considering the Void Dragon is imprisoned, I wouldn't hold my breath. Like I said though, we're likely to see the C'Tan removed as a playable option altogether. The absolute last thing I'd expect would be getting two more of them.
You're probably right. But I did hear (Warseer I believe... so take it with a grain of salt) some rumors stating that there were concept sketches for "new" C'tan. Of course, the reliability of such rumors are usually questionable at best. I guess time will tell. What would you like to see in the new edition of the Necrons?
Honestly? I can't think of anything. I don't play Necrons anyway, I've just heard that the C'Tan are out this edition. But, if GW sticks to the theme it's been on for this edition of 40K, the Necrons will get something that 'flies' (or like everything else, a model of an aircraft that uses the rules of a skimmer). Ya know, I bet the success of the Valkyrie is what put them on to this kick. I know I have two of them and want to get a third for my Guard. So in the spirit of idle speculation run rampant, let's kick around ideas for what the Necron 'flying thing' could be! I'm thinking some kind of giant drone-like construct myself.
heh why not. Keeping inline with the 'undead robots of the future' type motif and aligning with the 'Ancient Egypt in Space' idea the flyer with have be some sort of "Vulture" type deal, add the would Tomb to it and your good to go. Tomb Vulture, there you go. Its gonna be a tank hunting tank, so you can 'fly' out to the back of your opponents deployment zone and pop all those icky Leman Russes.
What about a "Cylon" (from Battlestar Galactica) sort of aircraft. It's mean and sleek. Throw a couple of Necron glyphs on it and you're ready to go.
I agree, the C'tan are likely to be gone- as full C'tan, anyway. I think they may well be something to represent them, and that full C'tan may well be apocalypse only. I have been playing necrons since I started Warhammer, and use a C'tan regularly. They can draw a LOT of fire, which is why being able to ignore terrain is so helpful!
It seems that most people feel that the C'tan are history. I hope everyone turns out to be wrong. I guess I still have a small hope since it is still quite a while until concrete rumours are available.
We might be both wrong. Apparently I'd only heard half the rumour. The rumour is that instead of being THE distinct C'Tan, they'll become a generic HQ C'Tan. Apparently some sort of setup like the Avatars of Khaine, where the unit is a portion of the being's power instead of the whole C'Tan itself.
I've heard something similar as well. Something along the lines of a Necron Lord being a vessel for the C'tan and being able to channel to channel its power.
... I'm reading more and more rumors on Warseer stating that the C'tan are in fact out of the next codex. It would appear that you guys are right on the mark.
