For those of you who have taken this weapon, what were your experiences with it? It seems like it could be a good trump card for an upcoming tournament Im going to. Something to come out of left field and really wipe the smile off people who put too much faith in their re-rolls and 2+ saves.

The blade of realities is fantastic. However, you need to realize that your defenses will be poorer because of it. At best you will just have the 1+ armor save if you are mounted, 2+ if you are on foot. No wards, no rerolls. That said, T5 1+ AS is still pretty good.

If you are going to run it, I would be sure to put it in a unit. Either a cold one bus to give a LoS, or a decent sized unit of anything else to at least stop ballistic shooting. Magic support is nice too. High magic works wonders with Apotheosis and Hand of Glory.

When you do get into combat, it is a total monster. Roll to hit, roll to wound, and you are done. No parries, no armor, no wards. S5 is pretty good for wounding most things. I took out a High Elf noble on a star dragon with this guy, no problem.

So, it's good, but you are giving up some of your defense in order to have that power. It really messes with Tzeench players, though. Take that, "unkillable BSB"!

Yeah the unkillable BSB is part of what made me consider it. Im expecting a lot of demons and warriors of chaos at this tournament. I dont want to play the "Roll 2s or I lose game."

I have 1 piece of advice: Slann with Lore of Light.
Anything else and you run a risk of dying. either speed of light or birona's timewarp will end up with you killing who ever you're fighting. I also make sure I give the TG Unit champ (i put my oldblood in a TG unit) asf sword so that he can take the challenge if i don't have my spell cast for the turn my opponent might charge before i get my buff off.

I've had some good outcomes with this build :)

Do keep in mind that you should only take BoR vs tough invuls. great weapons are more than enough against high armour, as s7 is enough to reduce a 1+ to 5+, which makes any rerolls near pointless.

Too bad it does nothing against regeneration saves.

Yeah, that part blows. Can't have everything, I suppose.

True, but considering its very hefty price tag, it really should bypass any and all saves. Especially seeing as it leaves no room for our character to take a ward save of his own.

Agreed, but i posit that we have ways to stop regen (flaming banner, magic, salamanders) whereas there is no way to stop wards outside the Blade. If you run into a chimera, it sucks, but we can deal with it. If you run into the unkillable bsb, he is going to wreck your life forever. He will just keep challenging until your stuff is dead, and you will have a bitch of a time making him go away.

Or, put an oldblood in a unit with a flaming banner. A scar vet with a magic banner (eternal flame) is not a bad combo, and makes for a powerful unit in itself when backed up by a few cold one riders.

No one wants to deal with such a unit. no one. Even archers will have problems doing anything to such insane saves, and slapping on an ironcurse icon can help them against artillery, and even if it doesn't, you still have a LoS.

I incorporated the Blade of Realities into a campaign game of about 4500 (two Slann, two Oldbloods on foot) points versus Chaos. Sadly I didn't get said Oldblood in combat with his Tzeentch characters (but they fought my OTHER Oldblood :depressed:) and his power got wasted on Bloodcrushers. The Oldblood survived but my sloppy handling of the Slann kept me from using the Blade (Do NOT Tepathically Confab all your best spells to a single Slann, it will go into a vortex).

I enjoyed flattening Bloodcrushers enough that I think I am going to take the Blade of Realities in most games north of 3500 points. I think Nex is right that Lore of Light will help a lot.
