You might have seen this post on Reddit, but for diversity of answers here's a post upon Lustria Online.

So... this was a random thought that came up while chatting with a friend. A random thought that had me cackling like a madman.

What do you think would be the result if, through some fluke of a chance, a saurus oldblood impressed the Lady of the Lake such that she blessed said saurus, and the saurus sipped of the Grail?

Now that is a fascinating and utterly wild concept—a Saurus blessed by the Lady of the Lake and sipping from the Grail! What madness!

A Saurus is biologically designed to follow the Great Plan, devoid of ego, personal ambition, or abstract moral concepts. If blessed by the Lady, this might create a paradoxical fusion of cold, unflinching duty and spiritual enlightenment. The Saurus would remain utterly devoted to its original purpose but now embody higher virtues, like honour and compassion, which are foreign to Lizardmen.

Like Grail Knights, the Saurus would be physically transformed by the blessing:

• Strengthened Beyond Imagination: The Lady’s power would amplify the Saurus’s already monstrous strength and resilience, turning it into a truly indomitable force.
  
  
• Regenerative Power: The Grail’s blessings often grant near-immortality to those who sip from it. A Saurus blessed in this way might be almost impossible to kill, shrugging off even catastrophic injuries.
  

Saurus are biologically incapable of complex thought or emotion beyond their role as warriors, but the Lady’s blessing might imbue the Saurus with greater awareness and intellect:

• The Saurus could develop a newfound understanding of honour, loyalty, and even sacrifice—not just as functions of duty, but as personal choices.
  
  
• It might wrestle with its newfound awareness, as such emotions would be alien to it. Would it feel pride in its actions? Would it even understand humility or compassion?
  
  
• The Lady’s influence might soften the Saurus’s cold pragmatism, introducing virtues like mercy or self-sacrifice that are alien to the Great Plan.

Well, back before the End Times, at least one author put in the theory that The Lady is actually an Old One, though the Reddit comment that mentioned that also pointed out that the same author wrote about skinks hatching from eggs, so yea... A moment of OldHammer being inconsistent between authors.

Though back to your comment... To quote Discworld: you might not believe in the gods, but that doesn't stop them from believing in you. Nobody says you actually have to revere The Lady, just that she apparently decides that you are worthy and shall be blessed.

This sounds like something Bob would write.

He wrote a long comedy action story about his ragtag Lizardmen adventuring through the lands of the Empire and aided them against Chaos against all odds. He said his original plan was to have his characters adventure through the lands of every Force of Order and I believe he was going to cover Brettonia next. Was.

This sounds like something Bob would write.

He wrote a long comedy action story about his ragtag Lizardmen adventuring through the lands of the Empire and aided them against Chaos against all odds. He said his original plan was to have his characters adventure through the lands of every Force of Order and I believe he was going to cover Brettonia next. Was.

I remember reading a bunch of his stuff when I first created an account here. Seemed like a swell guy. I'm upset I never got to speak with him

I guess, but only as long as she doesn't get in the way of the great plan. I still feel that our Lizards are in no need of Elven blessings though. It's a slippery slope, next we'll have @NIGHTBRINGER ranting about Chaos Lizardmen.

In the hypothetical scenario where the Lady that enjoys bathing in lakes looks at a lizardman of any flavour and thinks "perfect, I'll give that one my blessing", I would imagine she's doing so because
A) the lizard is already doing what she considers to be a duty of those blessed by her, so why not grant this individual a little boost, she herself isn't interfering with the Great Plan, and fighting against Chaos is just as much to her benefit as it is the Great Plan, so no contradiction of duty.
And
B) Because she needs to have an agent who isn't tied up in Bretonnian politics. Putting aside my usual anti-Bretonnian attitude, Grail Knights might be bound to service of The Lady, but they are still tied up in the politics of the land. Repanse de Lyonesse had to fight against the misogynist attitudes of the dukes, and she was very clearly blessed. Let a saurus sip from the Grail and carry on doing as they've been doing, they aren't tied in Bretonnian politics. They're a free agent outside of the usual Bretonnian politics.

Now whether lizardmen politics comes into play is another question, but so long as there is nothing to get in the way of the Great Plan, I can see a Slann looking at a blessed saurus, shrugging and saying "Well, clearly this is a part of the Plan. Might as well use it. Ok, Saurus Incontinetia'rump, you're now promoted to Oldblood and will lead a Temple-Host in doing some anti-Chaos work. If the warmblood lake-swimmer wants to give you her blessing, may as well go beat up that Norscan war-party preparing to sail for Bretonnia. before moving on."

Now whether lizardmen politics comes into play is another question

Wouldn't Lizardmen politics be far more encompassing and restrictive? The Grail Knights revere her as a goddess and will devote their lives to fulfilling their duty to her. The Saurus will not. The Saurus exist to execute their innate role in Lizardmen society. They aren't exactly thinkers. They don't typically deviate much.

Maybe she decides to bless the Saurus (without them even knowing) because their path aligns with hers and she wants to enhance their chances. However, I don't really see them actively participating in such and exchange and would go about their business fulfilling their part in the great plan (blessed or not).


Maybe a skink might be a more appropriate vessel. Something akin to Tehenhauin and Sotek. There was pushback against Sotek until he saved the day. Maybe the Lady could masquerade as a Lizardmen deity, but I can only see that working with skinks. Saurus are single-minded instinctual warriors. Kroxigor are too simple minded. Slann are too busy unraveling and attempting to put into action the Great Plan.

That's just my two cents though, nothing wrong with stretching the lore out a bit and having a spot of fun! It is an interesting discussion.

The lady will NEVER bless a saurus with the grail as such a course of action does not fit into her character and motiviation. IIRC the End Times revealled that the grail knights' souls/whatever essentially got bound to her in some way such that she gathered the dead Grail Knights in another universe as another army, which she had created as fail-safe for the ET. How will she control a Saurus, who neither revered nor obey her?
I view the Grail Quest -- being the most arduous quests of all and has the highest fail rate, with many questing knights never seeing the lady -- as the ultimate test from the Lady/Lileath to see if the individual is completely devoted to her. Any wavering of the will, loss of faith, or weakness will result in her failing them. How will she test a Saurus for his faith IN HER? One cannot serve two masters, after all.
She may magically bless a Saurus, an imperial, Estalian, Tilean, Orc, even a Dwarf or a Vampire, but she will never bless any of them with the Grail because they lack the faith and devotion in her.

Mind, that's using some lore from the End Times, the whole reveal that she's actually Lileath (unless I'm forgetting some subtle foreshadowing before the fact, if so, please tell me so) so... darn you for reminding me of End Times. Just for that I should give you a penalty

A part of this whole thought experiment came about from earlier ambiguity and the idea that aside from the Chaos Gods, Sigmar, and Sotek to a smaller degree, there was the idea that al deity level entities were actually Old Ones or agents (or former) of them, trying in their own ways to maintain the order that Chaos had disrupted. Thus the mentioned earlier theory from a long time ago that the Lady was actually an Old One, which wouldn't have made the concept so impossible.

But yea, I do agree that in actual lore as it is currently, it ain't going to happen. Not without retcons... though if GeeDubs retcon the End Times and every twist and reveal and event therein... would any of us really be complaining? XD
