8th Ed. What Slann setup against different armies?

    Hey,
    I wanted to see what you all thought about different Slann setups used v.s. different warhammer armies. Ex. some armies like dwarves can dispel remain in play spells with a special runic standard which might make some lores less effective.

    Include what army(armies) you will be looking at and the 3 choices below:
    1) What Lore of Magic?
    I have seen a lot of people present 3 basic lores: Light Life and Shadow for a Slann. Other might be useful too.

    2) What unit setup?
    I see mostly solo Slann's, temple guard bunkers and with skink skirmishers.

    3) What items and disciplines for the Slann?
    I know popular favorites are Mystery, Higher State of Conciousness, Rumination, Cupped Hands ect...

    The hope of this thread is to help distinguish what Slann setups are better v.s. different armies.

    I really depends on what the rest on your army is doing rather than what the enemy is doing, unless you plan on running double slann.

    Light is good, in my opinion better than life. Light covers your weaknesses and life bolsters your strengths. Light is flexible and can work with several lizardman army types whereas life tends to force you into a point denial style list.

    I think death is very good on solo or double slann, its a very good way at getting rid of hard to get to points (characters) aswel as the other good effects.

    Boardly speaking i would use:

    Light against Undead, daemons, TK, beastmen, skaven, orcs, high elves and wood elves

    Death: Anything

    Metal: Warriors, dark elves, Brets, dwarves, Ogres, TK and empire


    Alot of what you equip your slann with will depend on your enviroments comp, but generally speaking +1power die is really, loremaster is good but not essential as you can get 5 spells for 15pts, soul of stone can be a good way of keeping the slann alive (esp if run with a low castin level lore like light) and ethereal on a second BSB slann can be great.
