Hi I need some advice with what to expand my army. Right now I am finishing painting a box of skinks but when thats done I need something new. To this date my army consists of: 1 OB on foot 1 priest 1 chief 1 steg (special) 8 coc (one or two used as SV or OB) 3 krox 32 saurus 24 skinks 2 jungle swarms I have only played 2 games and i noticed a lack in the magic phase. Still I dont feel that my army is big enough for a slann. Right or wrong? Suggestions accepted great fully! /Crillaz
Jesus Christ. You have exactly the same models as me. (And to think one click on the newposts button led to this coincedence) Same as you, I feel a distinct lack in the magic phase. As N810 said, more skinky priests! Or of course, (if you find a way to squeeze it in) a lovely slann. I'm going this weekend to get a slann and 16 more saurus. Oh, and two more cowboys. Saurus for more tasty anvil staying power, And cowboys for the amazing punch. Also, (if and when you get the slann) change your old blood to a scar vet to help out the saurus. (Unless the list turns out big enough for an old blood and a slann) Also as n810 said, a bastiladon provides that awesome synergy and bound spell. Hey, a bastiladon might up the army and make it merit a slann. Anyways, best of wishes, Lizardmen98
Exactly the same models? Obviously we both knew in which order to get the stuff. ;-) I have been thinking today, and a bastiladon seems like a wise choice. And also to add 2 priests maybe. The bastiladon wont channel dice tho, right? /Crillaz
Id say a slann with temple guard and some ancient stegadons would be good aditions. You have a good mix so its really upto you
The bastiladon has served me well. Also, 2 skink priests should be good for wysans spam. Yes, I think you have clear judgement
What points limit are you playing at...? I feel a Slann is a bit on the costly side for 2000 and under.. I would say get some terradon riders/ ripperdactyls
I have only played 2 games so far. First one 1500pts, second 800 pts. Right now it is a learning period. First game took a massive 12 hours to finish. Checking rule book this, checking rule book that....etc. Still I think we did a lot of mistakes. Second went a lil smoother. If it does matter for what to buy my competition so far is OnG, and soon also dark elves. For the DE rippers might be a good choice. The guy like shooting.
Its done… Skip magic…now its monsters for me. (until I want a slann…) 2 carnos and 2 rippers ordered.
Rippers are defo a worthwhile model, though don't forget terradons! we seem to forget them alot, but they still have merit! being 15 points cheaper and still decent at harassment and holding up a war machine without your opponent being able to block your bird with something else Glad to see i'm not the only fan of the big baddies either, was the first general model i bought for my army (the carnosaur).
Its indeed a great model. So is it better to build terradons instead of rippers? Which one is best at taking out war machines and archers. Wizards? Maybe 3 rippers and 3 terradons? /Crillaz
Depends on what you want to do, personally i want to have 4 kits + mounted chiefs when i am done I'd actually say 2 rippers or 1/2 OR 1 ripper, 1 chief on terradon, 2 on Ripper. There's plenty of bits to make the chiefs unique, and if you're lacking in heroes (or feel you are) chiefs on ripper are very popular. The one on terra is cheaper (well 5 pts), can drop rocks on single targets and i'd say isn't THAT outshined by his brother (until the bloat toad rule is fixed). I have 2 kits of the old terra's (new ones i like way more in the working process), and 2 kits of the new ones i do rippers of. On the carno - the old bad boy is my fav, and luckily i managed to pick up kroqgar before he went out! also own 2 of the new kits, so i can make a troggie. I had money to waste and as such i have 4 K of unpainted lizards GL with the models!
I haven't thought about chiefs. Maybe its a good idea to make one or two. If I do that tho, I must have one unit of 4-5 rippers/ terradons since I only have six models. Is it wise to make the units bigger then 3? 4k to paint….you know what to do with your spare time for a while then. /Crillaz
Do units of 3. 4 might do - but this is in the rear of a horde or the likes. If you're making a chief, use the chief parts from both kits for 2 chiefs, and make a spare ripper (or terra), the next time you buy a kit you can fill out, and make a third chief. I'd gun for 1 of each or 2 ripper units, the chiefs was more to present that option. on that note, 2 terradon units is also an option, but i see rippers as being the wiser choice
Ok Do the frenzy mean that it will be tough to get them in behind the opponents battle line? I like the rippers because it feels like they have a better chance of doing some damage. The terradon rock drop is only once per game, is it that valuable? When the rocks are dropped i will have to charge in with them just as rippers, right? Are the bolas any good? A lot of questions now have patience with me… Only a few more I have the poisoned javs on both tho if I don't take the bolas upgrade? Since Im already posting here now Im gonna ask an off topic question instead of starting a new thread. Its for the game tonight. Can I use my power dice to dispel? All priests are dead so I can't use them for spells? Thanks /Crillaz
Frenzy is tough unless you screen the frezied unit. Use their vanguard move to get 'em behind cover that blocks their LOS or use another unit to screen 'em till you want them to enter the fray. With a flying frenzied unit it'll take more patience than it otherwise would. The terridons are great for knocking out small support units or damaging mage bunkers (skaven come to mind). You do that on the way to their target, a.k.a WMs. Don't know about the bolases but I assume they can be great especially when in combination with other, non-flaming attack weapons (skinks, ancient stegs, etc). The dons fly in behind a unit with regen and do a quick regen cancel. Then you lay into 'em with your other range. You can use power dice to dispel remains in play spells. Or at least you used to be able to. Haven't had to face remains in play in a while. There used to be a lizard magic item that allowed you to save excess power dice but I didn't see it in the new book.
You use your dispel dice to Dispel! not your power dice, just look up magic in the BRB with your opponent . Frenzy CAN make it hard, but since they're skirmishers you can turn your back on things for free and not be forced to charge - however if you turn your back on it remember you won't be able to charge something next turn, so you might have to take risks if your opponent can get a great eagle or skinks or something in the way. (the things he can get in the way will mostly be skirmishers if you play right, the rippers will eat them!) Jav are ONLY for the terradons, the bolas are neat, flaming attacks knocks of the regeneration saves off of some models and is therefore by man considered a mandatory upgrade for 1 pt - i think you can go without though Rippers have spears and shields and no ranged attack, the spears provide +1 str on the turn they charge. about terradons - drop rocks will clear smaller units of ranged harassers that can be in your way! after you've done so you can either charge something squishy with your terradons head on to see if you can kill it, charge anything in the flan or rear for a bonus to an already ongoing combat, or get them in the way of stuff you DON'T want to fight, and angle them so that whatever you're trying to "redirect" is directed elsewhere, safely away from your main blocks, this in turn can lead to you getting a flank charge! (at the cost of 105 pts)
Thanks for all the answers. It seems like it can be very tricky to get the rippers where I want them. Feels like turning their backs to avoid them from charging and then not be able to charge in the next turn is just to push the problem in front of me. Sooner or later I have to turn them around to face the opponent and I guess that he won't line up the unit I wanna kill for me while I am waiting to charge… Maybe its better with terradons. What is your favorite VampTeddy? /Crillaz
