Rumours are saying Britonnia this summer. Should the trend continue something else will come this fall and the last one early 2014. If we look past the 9th edition rumours. I like the look of Britonnia, but I honestly feel they need more infantry units. In fact should their current special infantry units be updated to be more viable and receive some sort of infantry knight as special I think it could be really great. Just to switch things up a bit. I'm sort of hoping for Beastman in the fall. I like them, but they currently have several weaknesses. This is an army I personally could see do well if properly updated. I'm just not sure with what though. They kind of have a decent range of units AFAIK, but at the very least we're looking at better monsters; T5 monsters with no saves is ridiculous. Give some of them regeneration or something like that. The ratz I'm completely in the dark about. I *think* they'll need a swing with the nerf bat and maybe improved stability so they're less unstable while still retaining some of their wackiness. They have plenty of models so it's not as if I feel they need something like that. They have all kinds of different infantry models, they have tons of warmachines, several big units and even monstrous infantry. Going by the trend we'd probably see something big and something monstrous cavalry-is. Right? Synergy is also something GW have tried to incorporate with some succes so maybe a big support unit. So what are your thoughts?
I hear empire is this fall, I hope their +1AS knights changes to +2AS and that they maybe get S4 instead (think they're S3 now, please correct me if I'm wrong). /Sebbs
I have a buddy I play with who loves Bretts and feels the same way about getting some infantry units of worth. I'm not all that familiar with beastmen, but have always been interested in them. I also agree that they need some kind of save improvement. The only other thing I think could be improved upon would be doing away with the silly initiative to see who strikes first when you get charged by cavalry, but I think that is an overall rule that needs to be fixed and not an individual army book. It would drastically help Bretts if that rule was fixed.
If 9th edition doesn't come before all the books get an 8th edition book, I think Brettonians are surely next. They need the most updated models. Their existing infantry needs a tweak, but I'm not sure they need more infantry. People said the Dwarfs needed some MI or Monsters but actual Dwarf players balked at this. They knew what the Dwarf army was getting into it and did not want something different. I imagine Bretts are similar. They will likely get something big (probably monstrous cavalry) and a new cavalry type (via a dual kit with a revamp of an existing unit). Beastmen was made with 8th edition in mind, so logically 8th edition Skaven will precede them. The thing is, new book schedules are based on model updates more than anything else, and I don't think either Beastmen or Skaven need new models particularly. I don't think Skaven will get nerfed a lot. There has been a gradual power creep book to book. The Wood Elves and Dwarves seem to have new books without a single stinker unit. The Tomb Kings and Orcs and Goblins are lower tier now, since they were the first. Even "nerfed" I can't picture the last or second to last book taking a real hit. Surely a unit or two will be reduced, but not the whole army. It's a tossup whether Skaven or Beastmen will come first. I'd say Skaven barely have the edge here.
To be completely honest, i wouldn't say Orcs and Goblins were especially needy either, but they got an early book. Empire also had lots of units, early new book! and i'm sure there's more examples of this. It isn't about who NEEDS new models, but about which armies models have been sculpted for, and GW couldn't give a rat's arse towards which books are powerful or not when they do update, it's about releasing a finished product. or at least, to me it seems so.
From a friend, but I believe he got it from here: http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.n...2-2014-Q2-2015&p=421923&viewfull=1#post421923 Edit: If the starter set is indeed Empire and Greenskin, to me it would make sense to get those two brought up to date with 9th asap. /Sebbs
I would like to see new sturdier basic tomb kings possibly made like the tomb guard perhaps. But i feel that the beastmen need a good update along with brets but the skaven are good as is
While I do agree that overall the skaven army is balanced for 8th edition and have a lot of good stuff in it there is just something to be said about the quality of the 8th edition army books. They're just better. I have a friend who have both Woc and Skaven and he'll would mich rather enjoy playing his skaven if it wasn't because of the book. The new books are just generally Imor user friendly and easier to read. At least from our perspective.
Yes comparing skaven to woc i dont think really works though in woc you got low model number that are bloody hard and skaven high cheap model count with contraptions that backfire more then they work and thats the point of skaven.
Ah my bad yes i have flicked through a skaven book, my mate got around that by putting postit notes on all the pages that he needed regularly i can agree there
it'll be brets and skaven with the next two books. June is Orks for 40k, meaning brets will prolly be in july.
