With Heelanhammer and Bad Dice on their way over the pond, and all the other WH "celebrities" who show up, its looking to be another huge year for Acon! Always a fun time reguardless but if you've never been, this is the year to go!!! With that said, who is planning on heading to Chi-town next year for the festivities? Right now we have a fair amount of our gaming group here in Indy going and as per tradition, a small group of friends and i are getting a 3rd floor suite. You might ask, "Why spend so much money for a suite?" and to that I say... SECRET ELEVATOR!!! If youve attended years past youll know waiting for an elevator can take FOREVER, especially when one is out of service. There is a "secret" elevator that only goes up to the third floor which drastically cuts down on transit time and when youve only got 30min between games, and it takes 15-20 to get to and from your room on the lobby elevators, it makes a difference. We can easily fit 5-6 guys in there too, so the cost is about the same as a reg room. Other aminities come with it as well (like a giant bathroom and 2 walls of windows) but the elevator is the selling point for me! Anyway, I'm already excited for this and am really trying to get my Sotek army at least table top ready so i can play it in 2014. Though I may or may not have said the same thing last year...
I plan to be there again this year. I've been going for the last 4 years and each year I have more fun. Already have the hotel reservation, I just need to sign up for Adepticon when it becomes available. I'll be bringing my Lizzies back this year (after bringing my Ogres the last couple). I don't power build (everyone last year was shocked at such a soft OK armylist) so I'll just build a list that I think sounds fun to play 5 times. If I win 3 games, great. If not, oh well. Hope to see you there!
Yeah last year I took a "soft" lizard list and won 3/5 so was happy. If you havnt got a hotel room in the Westin yet, you may be sol! That place sold out almost instantaneously this year! I remember a few years ago when you were able to wait till Dec to sign up and there were still plenty of spaces open for every event, now its a rush as soon as registration opens. Def a good thing, I love seeing Acon grow every year. If there are enough of us going, maybe we should organize a short meet and drink in the bar on Thurs, just to say whats-up. We can call it "An Il-Lustrious Evening"!
I will be there for my 5th time. And if I recall correctly, the first game I ever played at Adepticon was vs. LizardJeff.
Really?!? Must refresh my memory! Was that 2009? If so the first game I played was the Fantasy escalation at 1k. Oppenent was High Elves with a Dragon Prince bus, I had a priest on top of the 7th ed engine and got suuuuper lucky and rolled up the no armor saves lightning bolt. One irresistable force later the knight bus was down and the Lizards were on a very high trajectory for the win! I seem to be having more trouble recalling who I played during the championship though...
OH SNAP!!!! I remember that one!!! We were right next to the door leading into the hall and Johnny Hastings was playing his Beastmen vs another lizard player on the table next to us. You took Lore of Life and taught me a few things about the proper use of regrowth (or w/e it was called back then). I had misunderstood the way the distance was calculated when the old comet came down but got it figured out and there was a good time to be had by all! If I had realized what you were trying to do when you refilled you stegs health and held back some dispell dice/scroll I may have won that game (not really but I can keep telling myself that ), but the better general won and I learned a few new tricks from an old school lizard player which i actually used during subsequent rounds! If I recall correctly you were wearing a starfleet shirt or hat, though my memory gets a little fuzzy on those details going back that far. Hope to see you there again in 2014!
That was the game. And your memory is awesome seeing as you actually remember the hat I was wearing. I wouldn't have been able to come up with that on my own. But then I am old, so my memory isn't supposed to be good. I don't remember the actual game as well as you, just that when your comet came down, you did more damage to your army than mine. Hope to see you there this year as well.
=> It's a 35 minute drive for me, so I commute. I also know the local places to go out after gaming. If the community decides to do some sort of social thing, I'd be happy to offer advice/help plan the fun.
As time draws near I'll try and organize a meet and drink or something, but I'm not planning on leaving the hotel except for a trip to portillos! We are still a little iffy on the suite (need another roomie or two to make it economical) but if we do I may just buy a mini keg or case of local brew and have a thur night social in the room. They also have a decent bar in the hotel so could always default to there as well. In any case I'll figure out some details and post them closer to the event!
Just skimmed through the events at the store. In addition to the Team Tournament and Championships, there are also late night Warbands and Skirmish available! I got to sign up for one of these too. Signups are this Thursday!
Well I'm def in for the Team and Champs but not sure about other events. The first few years I went I jam packed everything into the weekend that I could and ran myself ragged. If youve got the gaming stamina I say go for it though! On a side note, I was listening to the latest episode of Heelanhammer and heard Wayne Kemp (the cohost) was looking for a team mate for the doubles. Long story short, Im teaming up with Kemp to rock the doubles!!! Who has two prehensile thumbs and is a happy boy...THIS GUY!
Well it was a rocky ride but got my badge w full swag and champ ticket last night at opening, took about 40min but well worth the time outs and bad gateways! Acons facebook said there were something like 1400 ppl on their site when it opened! The countdown begins...
