why dont saurus or temple guard have 4 plus scalyskin? the both have shields and their scales act as heavy armour since its all over their body
their sheilds are counted separately 4+ scaly skin would mean 2+ save in combat, which would be too good
sounds good, might be worth mentioning that the save is improved to 3+ in combat if you go hw shield (although that seems rare these days if this forum is anything to go by)
i have used HW+shield against ogres ironguts, chaos wariors, and other hard hitters if i get the charge. sometimes even if i don't- just because i need that extra save.
Yes, even with spears they do still have hand weapons. You need to choose at the start of the combat which combo (spears OR h/w-shield) you want to use, then you have continue to use that comination of equipment for the rest of the combat, no matter how long it lasts. Additional . Temple Guard can have a 2+ save if they use hand weapon/shield instead of their halberds. And..In a simple and complete answer, giving lizardmen 4+ scaly skin would make them straight up overpowered.
I think what Sammy was saying is that even though it is a choice, the vast majority of people choose to use spears anyway. Bryanabbo, have a look in the main rulebook for the armour section to see the full rules for it. I can't give a page reference since I am at uni, but different types of armour saves do stack on each other while ward saves don't.
Excellent answer to a very simple question. While we're discussing this, I think they should cause terror as well!
While we're causing them to fly and keep their rank bonuses why don't we also give them a S5 poisoned long bow attack that has killing blow? They also can cause D3 wounds against multiple wound targets.
I just want my saurus to have the 'always win combat resolution by 10' rule... but flying and not losing rank bonus would be nice!
Wow, you guys ask for so much . How about a simple "Does not auto break from zombies or skeletons who outnumber them and won by 1 CBR?"
Hmm yeah thats a good rule. And they could make it cost 5 points for the whole unit. And call the rule something like...... Musician? Nah I guess they could also naturally win by 1. I have no problem with it, if something has gone wrong and I find my saurus beaten and outnumbered by skeletons, or even worse (and even far less likely) zombies, well it is the unit's fate. Is it even posible for 20 zombies to beat 20 saurus? 4-5 s2 attacks, wounding on 6's and a 4+ AS, its unlikely they will even do a single wound, even if they somehow manage 2 wounds we still have 17 attacks back that are wounding on 2's (spears).
