I do not think AoS is a so poor game, and I believe there's still a good amount of tactical thinking required to play it correctly.

Of course, you can break the rules and play as That Guy, if you want, but the game as is designed would immediately show you are the best person not to play with: you can win a match, but in the end the loser would be you. Would it be worth?
Lastly, I believe people think simplicity means stupidity. And I don't think it is true.
In Game Design the most difficult thing to do is to create a game that, with not too many rules, make possible a large variety of in-game situations and gives players the possibility to play in many different ways.
This would be an ELEGANT game, as designers say.
I think AoS is exactly this: it has 2 rules I don't like (measuring from models and not bases and shooting from/into combat), but the contents of the other 4 pages "rule book" have granted me more variety, versatility and fun than any other Warhammer edition in the past.
Every race/faction SEEMS usable, and I myself have played against shooting armies (Wood Elfs, most of all), and I never thought the matches were unbalanced (I sometimes won even using a Saurus-only army)!
I accept the fact you don't like AoS, of course, but usually people dislike it cause they don't realise (at first sight) the possible scenarios its rules make possible, simply because they are not listed in the game's manual.
To put an end to this post,
@Wazz , if you wanna re-paint your Gorrok <<JUST DO IT>>, as Shia said! XD
You can simply put another name to it, and create a background able to show YOUR Sunblood is a lot more badass than Gorrok!
P.S. These are personal opinions: I don't wanna attack anybody, guys, of course!

I simply don't like very much seeing a game (created by the work of lots of people, I guess) briefly liquidated in a couple of words!
