I came across this 8th edition expansion book randomly on eBay and I was wondering if it was any good. Does anyone own it or have read it? What is it about? What game mechanics does it introduce to Warhammer? Is it any good?

Somehow I completely missed out on its existence. I was never really much into expansions, as I typically stuck to the core rules/game. Now that 8th Edition is static (dead :(), I have a bit more of an interest in some of the variations to it.

Cheers & thanks :)

I know this is not really what you asked but have you thought about playing some of the skirmish campaigns for AOS!

I know that you hate AOS but the Hinterlands campaign is brilliant fun?

Thanks @Crowsfoot , but what I'm really looking for are ways to round out my 8th Edition experience. In the case of Blood in the Badlands, I literally know nothing about the book (I didn't even know it existed until I stumbled onto it a week ago). I'm just curious as to its content and quality.

I can't see myself switching into another game to be honest. I almost went the way of T9A, but then that fell through (for me). I'm into 8th Edition for the long haul, Warhammer or bust!

I'm not sure how many people are left on here that might have any sort of experience with this expansion book.

I found this on a site, don't worry there is no virus. If you don't like "free" things, i understand.

Blood in the badlands
Thank you kindly!
:)
Yea, I really don't remember this one either.... :oldman:
It really seems to have slipped under the radar. I guess it wasn't that popular.

I'd say give it a go! I'd play too, but you're kinda far away.
This is true... damn distance! I imagine that we could set up some really great games (across all game formats) between forum members if distance wasn't an issue.

I think i might have a solution. Ever heard of tabletop simulator? It's a game where you can play all manners of board games online with friends, and it has some extraordinary good mods, witch there is a warhammer fantasy and 40k.

Ohh, and your welcome, if you need anything else related, hit me up ;)

Blood in the badlands

Looks like one fellow lizard played it once.

Blood in the Badlands Campaign

My FLGS did a campaign in the past to great success, though I wasn't in attendance. I'd say give it a go! I'd play too, but you're kinda far away.

Thanks for the links, looks like some interesting stuff! I like the changes to the campaign through the seasons, and the siege scenario at the end. Plus the pictures of the siege equipment.

I bought it back in 8th, but never played through it. It was a pretty decent map campaign system, although I still prefer the General's Compendium's design your own campaign system.

OK,

I looked at that other thread and all I got from it as far as contents of BitB was: one fortress assault game.

What else is in there @NIGHTBRINGER ? I saw Scalenex mentioned something about a floating fortress?? Would love to read your review of it (answers to your own questions, etc.) because I really don't have anything with space to download it on.

I just pulled out my copy and there is a lot of interesting stuff in the book. On it's surface, it's a map based campaign, which is a great excuse to put models on the table and play Warhammer. It is 8th, but can probably be adapted to AoS if you want.

The campaign revolves around the capture of a flying fortress full of all kinds of cool magic stuff and plays out over four seasons of three turns each and a mega-battle at the end of the season. The book contains the rules for the campaign as well as a record of the version the GW staff played out.

Also, the book contains some rudimentary siege rules and some rules for underground battles. (At one point, the Skaven try to tunnel into the Dwarf fortress and so the GM came up with rules on how to play out the attack.) Overall, well worth the purchase, if for no other reason than for ideas to mine for campaigns for other systems.

In short it's a map-based campaign using the Mighty Empires tiles. The premise of the campaign is that the wizard Fozzrik (of the 8th ed pocket tower shenanigans fame) created a flying castle and filled it to the brim with arcane doodads and it took off never to land again... until now. A bunch of armies flock to the Badlands to try and lay claim to the flying fortress and the goodies within.

Rules wise I don't remember it bringing a whole lot to the table, but I could be wrong. There were some rules for using the Mighty Empires tiles, and they included the flying fortress as a kind of moving "tile". There might have been a few custom scenarios in there too. The main thing I remember from it was that it brought back rules for Siege battles and a handful of siege-specific units.

Overall I liked it (or at least the idea of it), but I was much more enamoured with Storm of Magic (another supplement I never got to play!).

I know that this is Necromancy again, but I’ve only just found the thread and it seemed that it was one of the trillions made before I joined.

I’ve got a copy of Blood in the Badlands and while I’ve never been able to find enough people to play a campaign with (not to mention that I don’t have any Mighty Empires tiles), I’ve always seen it as a great Warhammer read regardless. There are also some rules in there you can use for non-campaign games like the Siege Battle rules (I’ve been developing some additional siege equipment for Lizardmen) and I especially enjoyed reading how the White Dwarf team played theirs. I always determined that if I ever found enough people to play Fantasy with, I would attempt to get them all together to play a campaign like this, and I also thought the same if I ever found enough AoS players, as the campaign map rules could be just as easily used in AoS as well as Fantasy and I didn’t really feel much towards Season of War: Firestorm in comparison when it came out.

I certainly recommend it to enrich your Fantasy experience! :)

Awesome! Thanks for the great breakdown!

I'll forgive the tread necromancy for this topic, since it's one of my all time favorite Warhammer topics, i.e. campaigns.

Even if you don't have a mighty empires set, you can fake it with a hex map and some pins or make your own out of cardboard. GW had an online article on how to do it years ago. It might be in the black gobbo archive, but I may be misremembering things again.
[Edit] I found it. It's in Black Gobbo issue 35.

Even if it's not, there are some other interesting articles in there, including a bunch of scenery building articles (including lizardmen scenery!!!) and the denizens of the deep campaign.

Just to add to the necromancy...

RE expansions: if you don’t have triumph and treachery - I highly recommend it, hilarious fun and fantastic if there are an odd number of players (game is for between 2 and 5)
