I've started to try to put togeter scenery, and although there's a bunch of stuff I can reasonably make with clay and cardbord especially smaller things are a pain to make. Basicly the decorative bits; skulls, crates, vines that sort of stuff. Does anyone have a good place to get those from online? The local hobby store only has GW stuff (which is hellish expensive and they don't even have much) and apart from that there's no moddeling store anywhere near me. Online I've had some limited succes, but so far I haven't really find a shop that really sells what I'm looking for. So any suggestions?

I buy all my scenerey second hand. I don't know where you from. I am from the netherlands and we have an site callt markplaats, maby you have something similair in your country. I met a guy on marktplaats, he was willing to make 11 scenery pieces for €45 for me. If I where you I would just google, for proffesional scenery makers near you. You can make a deal with them, and make your own designs!

    Crates can be scratch built.

Vines and other foliage issues can be solved by visiting a model trains store. Those RR guys have all that stuff.

Skulls. I think Reaper minis sells a sprue if you must have skulls. ::: looks :::

If you must have skulls...why must you have skulls?? everybody and their dog, and their cat, and their ferret will have skulls...

well skulls were just an example, I'm moslty interested in the other stuff like for exampe the foliage in the post @BeardyGecko linked to.

As for building stuff myself. I'm still very much trying to figure stuff out. So for now I want to focus on building the easier bigger things myself and first figure out how to for example get the clay I'm using from not bending and curling while drying... once I can actually do that I can focus on more minor things.

@Saminator I am from the Netherlands myself, but not a great fan of marktplaats. A bit too sketchy, plus I do ultimatly want to make it myself. So I just want parts.

Also, I would go to one for trains, but there's nothing near me... so that doesn't work either.

o, there's a bunch of stuff I hadn't found on that site yet. I must say I find sites to be awefull for these kind of stores. Too difficlt to find what I'm actually looking for 'since it's spread over 2390830248 pages with a 1000 shades of gras tufts...

Local hobby stores normally have tons of jungle-looking plastic plants. Sometimes if you find discarded bits on the floor they let you take them home for free if you clean them up for them

But seriously, local hobby stores have worked the best for me. I also hear aquarium plants/scenery bits at pet stores work well too.

I like this idea, I will need to look into it. I tried using yarn to recreate vines recently, but it didn't work.

Oh when you mentioned yarn I remembered something...
Twine is a great material for terrain building...
as you can unravel it into smaller strands easily,
and it's not as fuzzy as yarn, also it takes paint/stain rather well.
oh and you can sturdy it up with a bit of wood glue/PVA.

You can build lots of stuff yourself. But if you need some bits then Greenstuffworld is good, and so is Thomarillion.de if you can read German. Same goes for Fantasywelt.de.
Ziterdes also has a online shop.

That's all from the top of my head but I am sure there is more.

sadly none of the local stuff is any good. No shops that focus on modelling, be it trains or wargaming, just stuff for painting or sewing and such..
The local pet store has some interesting aquarium stuff, but it's all too big.

I can fake reading german well enough to manage :p I'l have a look.

Might be worth checking some of the non-wargaming hobby stores,
sometimes you can find alternate uses for materials sold there.
