    SACRILEGE!

As far as I am concerned Rey is quite a weak character. I didn't care that much about her - Chirrut, Baze K-2SO gripped me a lot more because Chirrut and Baze were great friends and were always looking out for each other, while K2 starts out like Arnold Schwarzenegger from Terminator 2 and 3 but showed an appreciation for Jyn at the end, especially when she gave him a blaster. I cared a lot more for all of the characters in Rogue One than Rey or Poe certainly. Finn was a much better character in 7, I agree he was more fleshed out and more original than the other two main characters, but certainly Rey and Poe didn't grip me. If Rey had rejected the role of a Jedi completely rather than reluctantly using Anakin's lightsaber at the end, then she would have gripped me. But Disney are spineless and have made her into a reluctant Jedi in training like Luke before her. Poe was incredibly weak - he wasn't fleshed out at all. There was no depth for him. You don't know half the things about him, only that he's the best pilot in the New Republic (I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the Resistance) and that BB-8 is devoted to him. Nothing else.

How was Jyn and Cassian's death scene cheesy? It was original in the fact that they didn't kiss - it wasn't a repeat of Han and Leia in 5.

Also, how could you dislike K-2SO? He was a complete tank! His lines were probably the best in both films!

The CGI was good in both films, but 7 was far more cringe-worthy than Rogue One. The first half of 7 was fine, but the rest was very weak.

Agree about Poe. I hope they flesh him out a bit more.

Otherwise.. Meh. I guess we just saw the movies a bit differently. I admit I might be more positive about TFA because I see the movie as what it could have been instead what it really was. Just to be clear: it isn't really good. It has its moments but overall... meh.
But that's how I feel about RO as well and that's why TFA wins for me. Only barely though.

When it comes to Star Wars, you and I are nearly always in complete disagreement my friend. Rey is my favourite of all the new characters, while Chirrut & Baze didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

K2 was a fun character, I really enjoyed his parts throughout the film.

Disagree! Rey is now nicely set up to be a focal point for the Last Jedi. The interactions between Rey and Luke have me very intrigued. I can't wait for The Last Jedi.

They definitely have some work to do on him. We'll see where they take him in the next two movies. I admittedly didn't feel a connection with the character.

    Really?

When she came on I was in tears yep I know it's CGI but I don't care, same with Tarkin, I know it's CGI but Peter Cushing was a legend in my book and glad to see them bringing him back.

If it would have been Carrie Fisher, OR the CGI would be on Tarkin's level I would have been touched, too (I certainly was when I saw her in TFA), but since that CGI thing just didn't look like her the only thing it caused for me was frowning and wondering how that ugly CGI didn't land on the cutting floor.
If they had just not zoomed in so close or had shown her from not directly head on but a bit from the side I wouldn't have noticed either. The CGI wasn't _bad_ per se, it is just REALLY hard to create a character that is so well known and they should have known what that means. It is like in real life with people (like twins) who look really similar. They will fool people who don't know them, but as soon as you know one of them you will most likely not confuse them for each other. For me the CGI version looks like Leia's twin but not like her.
I don't get how they missed that.
I love Carrie Fisher's face back when she was young, she was really beautiful. Perhaps I stared at her more often and longer than what would have been good for me considering she is old enough to be my mother but yeah that's how it went for me. She's a childhood hero of mine.
The CGI version has a too thin, too long face. It is painfully obvious to me and since it was the last scene it really left a sour taste in my mouth about the movie as a whole, which I otherwise enjoyed most of the time. It was a decent movie after all.

As for Tarkin: Yeah I like the character and I liked Cushing, and his CGI was WAY better than Leia's so I thought "yeah OK, nice job there". When I got the BluRay I even did the test with my wife, pausing after the scene and asking her if she noticed something strange. She said "no" so I played the scene again and told her to watch closely if she sees something weird with Tarkin specifically. She said "no" again. Test passed. Leia failed the test. My wife is not a Star Wars fan who has seen the movies dozens of times. And even she thought Leia looked strange.

Just for reference (granted, not the same camera position, but still...):

And it appears we have a winner... by knockout! Rogue One takes it easily 12-3.

I figured Rogue One would win (I personally like TFA better, although I enjoyed them both), but it's good to catch a glimpse of the magnitude of separation between the two .

In hindsight Rogue One has definitely aged better. TFA was a setup film and unfortunately what followed it completely ruined its potential.

I fully admit it... I was wrong! I had such high hopes for Disney Star Wars and I carried with me so much positive bias (note to self: never abandon one's natural inclination towards negative bias). Little did I know that Kathleen Kennedy would turn out to be such a turd. I used to love Disney and now I go out of my way to avoid financially supporting them in any way. Live and learn!
